With fashion dolls it's not about what is considered hot to adult men but what is visually appealing to little girls for fantasy play. Another big factor in the design is the ease of redressing the dolls and how the fashions look and fit on the doll. Doll clothes do add a lot of bulk to the look of a doll.
I say leave the doll alone. She's fine the way she has always been, especially before the last breast
reduction, and bigger hips.

Nothing wrong with either Mattel body style and the classic "twist and turn" style body is still in use in collector lines. The modern "fashionista" style body is great for playline dolls because of all the added articulation.
Now, the "realistic" one in the article would be hard to dress and hard to get the fashions to fit right. Barbie's feet are small and pointed for a design reason. It's easier to pull tights and clothes over them. It's a chore pulling on tights with dolls with large flat feet. Also, if you put thick plastic shoes on dolls with large flat feet, they are going to look like clown shoes in that scale. Barbie's long neck is another design choice. Put an outfit with a collar or a jacket on and the "realistic" one would have no neck.Last edited by Werewolf; Jul 4, '13, 1:06 PM.You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. To me, the face, on the new one, looks like Britney Spears.
- IanRampart, this is Squad 51. How do you read?Comment

I definitely prefer the normal Barbie (on the right), with normal curves and shapes.
If the original Barbie were to be made into a real flesh and blood girl, she'd look really weird..

I like the classic Barbie better. She's not supposed to look like a real woman...she's supposed to look like a fashion doll.
Jeez, if they're gonna do this, they better start making "real men" superhero figures with beer guts and double chins.Comment

I like Barbie, Not blonde snookie.........It's a doll for little girls. I don't see real men Ken dolls with balding heads and fat guts.......Comment

Barbie dolls are not intended to or designed to look like anatomically correct realistic looking humans shrunk to 12 inch scale. What men find attractive, hot, sexy, whatever is not a consideration in their design. Barbies are designed to be easy for children to dress and visually appealing to them. Barbie is a doll for children to play with. Lego figures are not realistic either and (just like fashion dolls) are not supposed to be.You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing.
