    4th of July Memories..

Hey Gang. Sitting here getting misty eyed thinking and looking at old photos of 4th of July's from days gone past. Every year from about 1976 to about 1995 my family would get together every year to watch fireworks displays and have a huge family picnic with lots of my relatives (who are sadly no longer with us). Nothing but good memories.
What are some of your best memories from past 4th of Julys?

        Hmmmm,

About 15 years ago went over to my Nephew's for a 4th Barb-Q

He lived in a town in a house

He had some M-80's and was setting them off

The police came by and started giving him trouble.

In the end it was all a prank and the police were his buddies and they stopped in for burgers

RIP Mike --- I could always count on you for a laugh

When I was a kid we would go to the Air Force base here in town to catch their fireworks show and listen to the Air Force Band play. That of course followed burgers and dogs at my Aunt and Uncles. Sadly they do not do the fireworks at the base anymore.

Recently we have been going to my cousins house on the lake. Eating, jet skiing and then the boat over by the dam to watch their fireworks. Unfortunately their pier was destroyed by one of the tornados that came through here a couple of years ago and they haven't been able to make repairs.

So tomorrow is my folks here for grilling. Still good times.

When I was a kid it was all about neighborhood bottle rocket wars. Everyone was in on it; kids and parents. No one ever got hurt (well out side of a couple powder burns). There was one year my Dad sent one through the neighbors brazier that was hanging on a clothes line. That lady got a little ****ed but got over it pretty quick.

Peppermint ice-cream. Homemade with a hand crank machine. All the kids would work the crank for 5-10 minute shifts until we couldn't crank no more. Gingham check memories for sure.

When I was a kid in NYC, we used to go to the drive-in movie that was near the Hudson River (can't think of exactly where it was). We used to kill 2 birds w/ one stone b/c if you got to a boring part in the movie, the fireworks were just off to the left. As a teen, picnics w/ the family. When I was married, fireworks on the beach near our apartment. As an adult, I don't really do much other than watching the Twilight Zone marathon every year. This year however, I'm invited to a BBQ. One of my former students is in the military and he's home on leave, so his mom invited me over.

Growing up, Independence Day was all about yard work. And even yet today, it is still all about yard work for me & Ed. He is putting a new starter in the loader and then moving steel beams, and still later cleaning the hangar. I am going to try and hide in the basement by the puzzle, until he drags me outside to trim bushes and power wash the house. And I admit it, neither one of us cares one bit for watching fireworks. I outgrew that when I was about eight. I know, what party poopers.

Used to go to the Beach to watch them as a kid. Great times. Now it's about grilling and relaxing until the dogs freaking out cause of the fireworks.

Dad belonged to an AMVETS Post they had Memorial Day and July 4th BBQ's every year. They were great memories. 2 outstanding memories; 1 the 1976 Bi Centennial July 4th, they had a parade of ships from all over the world come down the Hudson River and up the Long Island sound. Naturally being members we had a great place to watch them go up the sound, no traveling no traffic no crowds... and I'll never forget the news about the poor ship from Poland that arrived 2 days late lol poor Pols ... Memory 2, 1 large picnic table piled high with fireworks 1 misplaced spark 1 free for all lol those guys were diving for cover like they were back in Germany, Japan and Korea, flipping tables over for cover hiding under row boats lol too funny. Thanks Dad for everything!!!

Hey! I remember sitting on my fire escape in NYC watching that parade of ships! (I had to BEG my mother to let me do that, b/c she was always afraid I would fall and kill myself).
