I agree about Hammer making a great-looking Ranger, too bad he plays comic sidekick to annoying Depp's Tonto.
As I said before, have a sequel with Hammer plaing a serious Lone Ranger, get rid of Depp, then get a serious younger actor to play Tonto, tone down the explosions, then you'll get an awesome Lone Ranger movie.Leave a comment:

I'm glad finally some Man of Steel fans came to defend the movie here, I was getting a bit worried there for a while, but all is good now, awesome, lol.Leave a comment:

Sorry, but like Chris just said, WRONG!!!!!!I just find it funny that in order to justify Man of Steel, you felt the need to mention and bash Amazing Spider-Man for some reason. You know...the Amazing Spider-Man that beat MOS at the box office?
Not too bad for a (and I quote) "skinny pimply teenager".
Sorry Hector...I had to.
Man of Steel has just surpassed ASM.
And I don't know where you got me bashing the movie Amazing Spider-Man at, I dug that film, I always keep defending that movie too.
P.S. I did call the character of Spidey pimply skinny teenager, but did not personally bashed the movie per day, but I'm honored that you can remember old quotes of mine, it's kinda cool, lol.Last edited by Hector; Jul 11, '13, 10:41 AM.Leave a comment:

Well...it's according to how you define "worse". Despite myself, I like "The Legend of the Lone Ranger" for some reason. I think it's that they got the scope right, and it's definitely reverent to the material for the most part. They gave Tonto some dignity beyond grunting broken English all the time. The soundtrack is great, the cinematography is beautiful...but Klinton Spillsbury is a piece of wood with someone else's voice. That essential part is way off, but there are a lot of things they did right. And they set out to make a then-modern interpretation of a Lone Ranger film, and I think they succeeded. The film plays like any western of the 70s or 80s with a masked man thrown in.Cant be no worse than the early 80's movie
The new movie has a much better actor in Hammer, who could have played a straight Lone Ranger as well. The over-the-top outrageous spectacle of the film and Depp's usually quirky performance as Tonto are far afield from any other interpretation, and the only western that comes close to it's level of oddness is Raimi's "The Quick and the Dead".
I like them both, for different reasons. Neither are what I'd call the perfect Lone Ranger movie. And now that this one bombed, it will be another 30 years before we get another, I'd imagine.

Well put. I agree. For the 2 bucks I'll spend at redbox I'm sure it will be fine.Critics take this stuff way too seriously. From everything I've read, the film is an over the top cliffhanger serial just like the original Lone Ranger serials, which were far from great films, but were damn entertaining nonetheless.
As long as this version entertains, that's all it needs to do.Leave a comment:

MOS has surpassed ASM's domestic box office.
MOS: $273,930,420
ASM: $262,030,663
That was ASM's final US box office tally, and MOS is still going.

I saw the movie and to me it didn't seem to know what tone it wanted exactly. There was no doubt about MOS and whether you agree with the vision or not it was successful because the mass audience accepted it. I also enjoyed it far more than LR and will be adding it to by blu ray collection when it comes out. I'll pass on LR, don't need to see it again.Leave a comment:

I find it interesting that most folks having trouble with MOS have decried the changes it made to Superman, that their Superman wouldn't do this or that... That the tone of the film was too dark for Superman, whose adventures are usually less dour and have more humor in them.
Well, the classic version of the Lone Ranger and Tonto wouldn't do ANY of the things you see in this movie. And the tone ups the humor to 11 compared to any other interpretation.
The approach is far less reverent than MOS. I enjoyed the film for what it was, because I know they were going to turn it on it's ear anyway. They actually went further overboard with the outrageousness than I anticipated, though. And as others have stated, there are some deadly serious moments, and a few instances of shocking violence, followed by the usual "let's tie 'em up" mentality normally seen in a Lone Ranger story.
So for me, although the film is a fun ride, it's a far more schizophrenic film than MOS, where the creators knew what they were going for, and stayed consistent throughout. You can argue that's the wrong approach to Superman, but it was handled well either way.

That would be the other thread In General Buzz too I think. This thread should be renamed the awesome Lone Ranger and the horrible Man of Steel, lol.
I just find it funny that in order to justfy Lone Ranger, many of you in this thread have the need to mention and bash the Man of Steel for some reason, I just see it as envy, lol.
But, you are in the minority, so carry on...
