First they offer an observation that the film industry is heading more towards the home market and away from theatrically released movies (I guess they think that's a new observation because they must not have read or watched any news related to the film industry in the last 5 years or so), then they complain that gigantic budget blockbusters are squeezing out smaller more personal movies (I guess they've finally gotten to that age; a sense of irony is always the first thing to go).

Yea, they are a little late to reality. Everything is moving into the home and has been for years. If you have 100" HD led and more to come, and you stream the latest movies to your living room, while your sitting in your recliner, why would you go to the the theater and have to deal with people talking on their phones etc. Soon it will be only for Nostalgia. I think the Muti-plexs will go first and the only thing that will save them is, they will have to go back to the singe huge screen theaters.Comment

One of the few(if not the last) single screen theaters, Seattle's Pyramid Theater is closing after 98 years.Comment

At least. The VCR and metroplex were the one-two punch to the theater system a'ways back.
>the nerve of those two hypocrites
I don't think it's exactly hypocritical.... ironic, yes (like Lucas doctoring his films, considering the speech he gave against colurization twenty years back) but not hypocritical since there's a tendency to externalize things as we get older. Especially if you have kids. When you're young an old dude chopping a monster's arm off with a laser sword is cool and edgy; when you're old you can't help wonder if such things are harmful for the young'uns.
Same with film making; when you're in the middle of making giant blockbusters you don't see the problem like you do when you're old, and looking to make something more personal but there's no market for it 'cos of all the giant blockbusters.

Oof, out of touch a little gents.
I feel the advancement of home theater has split movies into two groups for me. The kind I watch at home (Seth Rogen movies are not enhanced by a big screen and a crowd of baked teens) and the kind i see in the theater. Ironically, I'll always go see the blockbuster in the theater.
