I used to love watching the wrestling on a saturday afternoon during the 70s.
I was clearly naive to the fact that it was staged and choreographed to a tee. Watching it now it's just so obvious. Thye were athletes though and took the falls which still must have hurt.

It's terrible isn't it.
My Dad, me and my brothers used to crowd around the TV watching this stuff.
My Dad also like something called Kick Stand (i think) a programme about motor Cross bikes, Worlds Strongest Man (who always seemed to be Dutch or Swedish), The Sweeney (abit like Life on Mars but withoput the Sci-Fi), Darts and It's A knock-out. And if my Dad liked it...then we all watched it.
"I've just bought a house. It's got a Buck Rogers Toilet. One yank, all gone!"
No doubt they are athletes and in really good shape but didn't know it was all choreographed.
Bob Backlund was the one who solidified for me that it was real. I remember he used to be interviewed and would act like a down to earth honest wrestler "I'm just going to go out there and give it 110% and hopefully come out victorious"
We don't watch any wrestling at our house and I had to explain to my kids who Hulk Hogan was when we were watching American Gladiators. I told them, he was the only one that I have any memory of who could pick Andre the Giant up and body slam him. Of course the next question was "Who is Andre the Giant". I replied "The big guy from Princess Bride" and then told them his classic move was to throw someone against the ropes and just lift his foot up and let their face meet his huge boot which was I don't know what size but it seemed like it covered the entire wrestler's face.
