    "Fleetwod Mac" album/LP/CD...Damn it's good

I've been really getting into finding original 1st pressings of LP's. My goal is to replace my store bought CD's with vinyl "Needle Drops" of the CD's I already have...Yes, vinyl is better when it hasn't been compressed and EQ's to death. Came across "Fleetwood Mac" LP and it was a 1st pressing (easiest way to tell is the etchings in runout groove) I've only ever had the Greatest Hits CD and the "Tango in The Night" LP/Vinyl. I know that Rumours is supposed to be the one that everyone should own...but let me tell you "Fleetwood Mac" is probably better. Not a bad track on the LP. I'd put it up there with the first Boston Album and Journey's "Escape" as a record I can listen to and never get bored with it. Never knew how much of a good guitarist Lindsey Buckingham really is. And the harmony's are close to CSN in perfection. BTW, just in case nobody remembers the LP it's this one:

"When not too many people can see we're all the same
And because of all their tears,
Their eyes can't hope to see
    The beauty that surrounds them
    Isn't it a pity".

    - "Isn't It A Pity"
    By George Harrison

I just saw Fleetwood Mac last month at the Rock. Buckingham is one of the most underrated guitarists ever and probably the best I've ever seen live. It was the second time seeing them live and they do not disappoint. I took my 7 year old with me and he loved them too. The self-titled album and Rumours are really complimentary albums and can be listened to in succession similar to The Steve Miller Bands Fly Like an Eagle and Book Of Dreams ( both highly recommended on vinyl too BTW) There's not a bad song on either of them. Also great sounding classic rock on vinyl is Creedence's Green River and Cosmo's Factory and Van Morrison's Moon Dance and Saint Dominic's Preview.

Oh and if you want to hear some mind blowing Fleetwood Mac, check this out.

I've got the album you posted on vinyl as well as rumors and they do not disappoint. Vinyl does really sound better. I remember several years ago listening to Goodbye Yellow Brick Road on vinyl and it was like hearing it again for the first time! Love Elton's Tumbleweed Connection also on vinyl.

I've seen them live twice. I think both time with the lineup still in tact. Once was for Tango In The Night and the other may have been for the Greatest Hits CD. Mick came out from behind the kit with a full body drum set. He literally played his body like it was the drums. I think the synsonic drums had just come out. His vest was the tom tom's and I think the padding in his leg was cymbals....just really freaky. He look like he was going into a Joe Cocker like spasm as he was playing.

Buckingham is a fantastic guitarist and songwriter. "You Can Go Your Own Way" is as good a break-up song as has ever been written. It just seathes with bitterness and resentment.

          Just a great band.

Who is in the band on this tour? Are they releasing a new studio CD?

I'm a huge Mac fan, and I think I like this self-titled record more than "Rumours". Then again I might just be a bit burned out on that one since nearly every song is played on radio ad nauseum. Buckingham is one of the all-time great guitarists, without a doubt. People might not realise this since he is not a shredder type but much of his stuff is very complicated to play correctly, especially since he plays without a plectrum. It's definitely worth picking up the rest of their catalog on vinyl if you can, "Tango In The Night" was a decent record but I think others like "Tusk" and "Mirage" have more to offer.

The lineup now consists of Fleetwood, Nicks, Buckingham, and John McVie. Christine is still in retirement, I don't know who they have as their touring keyboardist these days.

Christine McVie doesn't tour and they skip over her songs entirely. Funny thing is that Fleetwood Mac has a huge cannon of work that you don't really miss them untill after the show and go through a list of things they didn't play. Both Buckingham and Nicks do a song or two from their solo albums too, which I heard somewhere is part of their contract with the band. Buckingham has called Fleetwood Mac his, "carrot on his stick" and has also acknowledged that fans aren't interested in hearing anything new or solo unless the hits are being played. They did play two "new" songs that were never released or played live but originally written around the mid-70's when I saw them last. As for Buckingham's style of play, check this out, it looks like The Thing from the Addams Family is helping him play....

I paid nearly two hundred and some dollars for a box set with all of the newly remastered Beatles LPs. It's worth it. They make LP sounds so much better with these new systems and the new way they press them. I am a vinyl collector and I am glad to see LPs back on the shelves. I kind of was hoping they would fix the old LP issues, make new systems and bring them all back and they did. I am a much happier guy now. I love the sound of new LPs.

PS. For the love of GOD do not buy a new LP and play it with an old LP player. Trust me. You need to buy a new LP player to experience the new sound levels
