Interesting. My how time flies ... 32 years ago, and the excitement of seeing Star Wars for the first time back then is still in my memory. I reckon they would have had fun making that movie.Comment

I've never seen this footage, although I've seen several stills from it. When they released the Special Edition years ago, I expected this footage to be restored and wondered why they didn't. Watching it now, I'm kind of glad it wasn't restored. While interesting from a historical perspective, it's kind of chatty in a boring way, and makes Luke seem even more a whiner.Comment

Thanks for sharing.
The video answered a huge question I have had for years. I always wondered when Lukes friend joined the acadamey if they were training to serve the empire.

It's a lot of fun watching these old deleted scenes! In interviews Lucas talks about how his friends (Coppola, Spielberg, dePalma) tried to talk him out of focusing exclusively on the droids in the first act of the film, so he scripted and shot all the stuff about Luke's intro. But ultimately he thought (and I think most fans and viewers can agree) that it worked better to follow the droids all the way to Luke.
Nonetheless, it's fascinating to see Luke be in this subservient position to his older, smarter friends (who call him 'Wormie'), and to see the moment when he decides (as he later tells his uncle) that he's going to "put in his application this year".Comment

Thanks txteach,i have never seen this, they should of put it on the special edition, would of made more sense to the story,as you never really saw Biggs until just before the battle of Yavin, maybe they may add it to a 40th anniversary set?

Seen the footage before...it's on a a disc called Star Wars Behind the Magic. It's a CD Rom set from about 4 or 5 years ago. Lot clearer than what is on you tube. Great stuff. I would love to see the seens that were never shot/or never finished with the Wampa's attacking the rebel soldiers."When not too many people can see we're all the same
And because of all their tears,
Their eyes can't hope to see
The beauty that surrounds them
Isn't it a pity".
