    Internet Sale Tax Passes

So the Marketplace Fairness Act passed yesterday.
How will this affect any of you independent sellers here, ZICA, David Lee, ScottA, Doc Mego, Figures Toy Co. What will we see?
I would assume the toy sites like Entertainment Earth, BigBadToystore and others will also now be charging taxes.

    Thoughts?

Well, the Senate passed it, but it still has to pass through the House, where it might get a bit more resistance, before it becomes law.

Of course this passed. This is like handing the senate a prepaid debit card without the appearance of a tax increase. I buy a lot of stuff on Amazon, so this will directly affect me. With the extra income taxes we are now paying this year combined with this new law, perhaps we can fund another war. If this all isn't a subversive way to build a super rocket to save the Earth like in the movies I'm going to be very disappointed.

"ebay taxes"? I'm not sure what you mean. If you mean that you have to account for your ebay sales, that is nothing new. You should have been doing it all along. There was this sort of myth for years that money earned via ebay wasn't taxable until recently, which is total bunk.....

As far as this new bill, I can see why brick and mortar stores are for it. I mean, internet sellers have had an advantage for YEARS not charging sales tax. I have friends who own stores who have NO sympathy for online retailers who don't have to charge sales tax......I'm not really sure where I stand on the issue.....

I think what's really being missed here is that those senators made a decision based on what's best for the people.

But I kid! For the guys that own small businesses griping about how consumers save on taxes buying on the internet, maybe the Senate would vote to start making local businesses charge extra fee to make up for what is lost in shipping costs by buying locally. That way, no matter how the customer buys a product, they pay essentially the same amount and we'll have even more tax revenue to give away to countries that hate us. Everybody wins!

I hate this because the internet really cut Barnes & Noble off at the knees. After years of squeezing the small bookstores out of business they were finally bested by Amazon. They had they're heads handed to them. Now this levels the playing field and they might rise again. It irritates me they might not get their just desserts.

With the Nook, they have a really strong internet presence; still, their site sucks compared to Amazon. I think I've used it once, and that was because I had a gift card.

How will this effect small eBay sellers? Hopefully eBay will handle it and modify invoice thing were it's all automatic?

Surely then people from abroad will not be paying tax , and just get the guy to gift it for my end.

Senate hasn't passed it yet and some are saying it will be a tough vote.

I should have wrote the House. Sorry for the mix up

Yeah, it passed a couple days ago 69-27. It still has to pass the House, though.

Seems like the House might be tougher for it to get through.
