    Not too many legends left...

Makes me sad thinking about the passing of Ray Harryhausen and how my entire childhood is summed up in four guys who probably won't be around that much longer....Adam West, William Shatner, Lee Majors, and Stan Lee.

When they're gone that's pretty much the last of our childhood gone too...

It is sad, but we will always have the wonderful worlds and characters they created.

True, true. Isn't it amazing how much of an impact people you've never even met can have on your life?

This really hit me when Roy Scheider died a few years ago. The guy who starred in the reinvention of movies was gone. It didn't seem possible.

It made me appreciate the way Connery and Hackman are doing it. Retired, living their lives out of the public. It gives us time to know what it's like for them to not be around.

It's going to be devastating when Eastwood, Lee, Shatner and Nimoy pass. They're so active and a huge part of the current culture. Harrison Ford wouldn't have as much as impact as those four right now.

Don't forget Chuck Norris. He died 3 years ago but the grim reaper is afraid to tell him.

As far as pop culture influence, I'd say Stan Lee is the biggest name on a (hopefully) short list. Us comics fans are used to seeing our legends go, Kubert & Infantino being the latest.

When Clint Eastwood dies, every man should get a day of bereavement. Testosterone will die with him.

So very true. And not to get too ahead of that group, but even our 70's and 80's stars are up there now. Stallone, Schwarzenegger, Kurt Russell. Think about the musical end as well. The Stones, Led Zepplin, Alice Cooper, KISS (original line up), Van Halen, and Aersomith. They're all pretty long in the tooth. Heck even Barry Gibb is the last surviving brother of the Bee Gees. Whoever thought that would happen the way that did? Yep. Time and just plain misfortune is beginning to catch many of our aging idols. We just have to appreciate them while they're here. Think I'll put in some Six Mill tonight!

Yep, when I last saw Eastwood and Christopher Lee, looking very frail, it was a sad sight. A whole generation of childhood heroes, almost gone. It's only logical, I'm 47 now, but it still feels like a loss. Especially with all the movies out on DVD, you get the feeling they'd be young forever.

Even though I don't have kids of my own, I keep wondering, will there be any iconic people for them to remember? The people they enjoy all seem to be fads. They don't have the staying power of the icons we have known and loved. I remember how sad I was when Michael Jackson and Evel Knievel died, and how sad I'll be Shatner, Nimoy, Dick Van D, Bill Cosby Carol Burnett, David Cassidy, Shaun Cassidy, Rick Springfield, and other favorites of my childhood are gone.

Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic

you guys are making me sad :(

I really can't add anyone to the list - I think you all hit it right on the head.
when these guys are gone a part of us will be gone as well. I'm glad we have dvds and netfix etc.. to view some of their work, but no doubt the world will miss these people.
