Man I really liked this movie,I thought Hayden Christensen was really good and the Chick from the OC was super hot!! Lots of action too.Over all I thought it was well worth watching it in Theaters.Looks like there's suppose to be a part 2 and 3
I saw it last night. They foreshadowed great things for the character that never happened. He ended without being a true hero in my opinion. I figured they were aiming for a sequel but I think it is pretty lame to have a movie where the main character doesn't evolve. It seemed like one of those movies that follows a successful film anticipating multiple sequels (empire strikes, back to future 2, matrix reloaded etc).
Hayden christiansen is pretty good in it. the chick serves her function (look pretty) sam jackson phoned in his role.
i give this movie a mild recommendation based on action and effects along with a good story idea (even though it went nowhere)
The movie was mostly fun-as-hell action sequences, but the main character did evolve. That was the entire thematic undercurrent of the movie. At first he was selfish and narcissistic, like other jumpers using his powers for self-gratification to the exclusion of helping those in need. Then... well, you saw the movie. He....
SPOILER ALERT
... had that awesome fight/chase sequence with the Scottish jumper over whether they should just blow up the building and kill everyone -- or risk their lives by going in and trying to save the girl. He came out of himself and felt compassion for another person, whom he loved. That is growth. He also mourned his father's death in a small but significant scene.
He has not evolved - he is still just self gratifying - the girl is just another thing he wants. He is fighting for self preservation - a far cry from self sacrifice.

I hear what you're saying, but look, that's what love IS. When you're willing to give up your life in order to try and save the person you want to be with from certain death, that's love -- that's compassion. This is all underscored in the chase/fight with the Scottish dude, who tries to talk the hero out of going because "jumpers are all alike; they only care about themselves." If he only cared about himself, he would have let her girlfriend die and continue his meaningless one-nighters with hot English blondes.
I think he did change,he could've easily dipped and disappeared, instead he chose to try and kill the guy and save the girl, but still that really doesn't matter to me in the movie...i'd definitely go see part 2
