    School Dinners

What were your school dinners like.

School in England I used to have lots and lots of Brown stuff.
I never knew the name of any of it, oh also dry white bread, which everyone ate with a knife and folk

But that was Heaven compared to

School in Ireland for lunch we had a small bottle of milk and a current bun delivered by...the current bun man
in a black bin liner in the playground...it was grim. On my first day there I asked the bin bag man
"please sir, can I have some more" and he said "as it's your first day you can have another (stale) bun"
    gee thanks.
And everyday we ate in the playground.

School lunch is still crap here. Very fatty, tasteless food. That's why I bring my own lunch to work.

I've never experienced a hot lunch program, it still doesn't exist here to my knowledge. In high school we had a cafeteria but it was as expensive as a restaurant. I subsided on their soggy Fries n' Gravy for four years and somehow never gained a pound.

Always looked forward to when it was pizza day at school. Rest of the time was like who cares.

I remember the hot dog's in my school being way smaller than the buns. I also remember this hard crust-like material on top of the mac and cheese. On "sub-day" the meat in the sandwich had some sort of gelatin in it. Real nasty looking stuff.

Well, T1Kirk, you had better lunches than we did in Manhattan at that time. At least 2 to 3 times a week, we had mystery meat, which was basically loose meat served w/ (get this) an ice-cream scoop. I could sometimes stomach the hot dogs, but not the sauerkraut that went w/ it. And the lunchroom ALWAYS smelled like kraut, whether we were having it or not. The Fish stix and fries weren't bad, and we always had chocolate pudding w/ it. It became the thing to dip your fries and stix in the pudding (trust me it was an improvement!) By 4th grade, I'd had enough and started bringing my lunch. When I came to CA in 8th grade, lunch was Heaven by comparison. We had burgers and tacos, nachos, and other good things. You had your choice of hot lunch or box lunch, (I always chose box, b/c I could get a cheeseburger every day!)

doh...I get it a chip of the old pickle.

I kinda like the idea of Soylent Green being served in schools...now that I no longer go to school that is.

In junior high and high school we had a choice of 2 lines. One was the cafeteria side and the other was pizza. I usually choose the pizza side.
