Looks great but in the state of disrepair it was in, I would think these pics had to be from the 1970's since that is when the Smithsonian first got it and worked on it.

A look at the restoration of the 11 foot Enterprise model

This is the second restoration I think. A prior restoration was covered in the original Star Trek Poster Magazine, (if anyone remembers that publication). The guy in some of those pics, Ed Miarecki, painted the model like it was Star Wars, kind'a heavy-handed and really dirtied-down, not like it looked in the show. The paint job has been a bone of contention with many fans yet the model kit community sticks by this guy. With all the popularity of Star Trek in the 1990's I don't understand why the Smithsonian didn't consult with model-maker Greg Jein, Mike Okuda or Doug Drexler to restore the model. These guys not only worked on the shows but are usually front & center whenever details about the original show are researched. William McCuller's IDIC page, now gone, had some great shots of what the paint job should look like. -
Ok, So back on September 8th 2011 (the 45th Anniversary of the premier of STAR TREK), The Facebook page of the National Air and Space Museum put up this photo of the original 11 foot ENTERPRISE. They also posted a blurb celebrating STAR TREK and the model in their gift shop. I can’t...
