    Official 2013 NHL Play-off Thread

The play-offs start tonight and if they're anything close to last year, the next month should be full of some exciting Hockey.

Anyway we had some great posts last year all through-out the play-offs here on the forms. Chime in with whatever. Here's my 1st Round picks...

First up is the Wild and the Blackhawks. I'm picking this one more with my heart than my head but it's easy to go with the Blackhawks with the way they've played this year. Also Zach "He's Dead To Me" Parise is on the Wild and I'm hoping for a 4 game Chicago sweep.

The Ducks and Red Wings face off against each other and a lot of "experts" have the Ducks playing for the cup. It'll be tough to get past the Hawks if they both get there but I'm inclined to agree and will take the Ducks in 5.

Pittsburgh is another favorite to be playing for the cup this year and depending on how Crosby comes back from his teeth-shattering injury will have a lot to do with it. Also, if he gets the preferential treatment from the refs as he's accustomed to will also have a lot to play into these games as well. (Question: What is Sydney Crosby's favorite album? Answer: Van Halen's DIVER DOWN) I think the Islanders could be this years Kings though and man are they DUE! If the Islanders find thier groove again and get the goaltending they need and Tavares steps up, this series could go the distance. Lots of "ifs" but here's hoping the Islanders will upset the Pens in 7.

Montreal and Ottawa. Like the Yankees in Baseball, the Canadiens are a love of or hate 'em team. I hate 'em. How I really hate 'em. Plus Ottawa's got Anderson and he's one of the players I have the most respect for in the NHL. Do I think the Sens will win, no. But I'm hoping for another upset so Ottawa in 6.

Vancouver and the Sharks. The Canucks have been snakebitten so much in the past, it's hard to imagine history won't repeat itself again but I think they match up well against San Jose and can advance to the next round. Canucks in 5

St. Louis vs L.A. The Blues are playing with half of last years Rangers team. The Rangers are playing with half of last years Blues team. Who got the better of their trades may be determined this post-season depending on which team advances further. The Rangers almost got it done last year so there's a lot to like with the Blues and the Kings just aren't the same team they were a year ago. Unless Quick starts playing like he did last year, I like the Blues in 6.

In the "haven't we seen this match-up enough times in the past few years", the Rangers will once again meet the Caps. If Ovi keeps his game up the way he did in the regular season, the Caps are gonna go a long way in the post-season this year. The Rangers played well down the stretch too but they met the Devils twice towards the end and they didn't even show up for the last game plus they through up a rock against a terrible Florida team and had to make an overtime comeback to clinch in order to avoid a potential season ending last game against NJ last Saturday. This could be another down to the wire series but I think the Caps can take it in 7.

Boston and Toronto. Wanna make a bet the Leafs go 4 and out? They haven't been in the play-offs forever and if they can get past the Bruins, they'' probably be the most talked about team in the play-offs. I don't think thats gonna happen though. Boston in 5.

You know...I'm a Bluejackets fan, and I feel weird about this year's playoffs. The BJs missed getting in by 1 point, and they were one of the hottest teams in Mar & April (8-2 in their last 10, for instance). I wish the season were a little longer than 48 games because I'm confident that they would've gotten in. To be clear, I'm not complaining - everything was fair; every team played 48 games. It just feels like there's unfinished business. I'm already looking forward to October.

Having said that, I like the Penguins' chances. I don't like the Pens, but I think it's their cup to lose this year. However, I'd be happy if a Canadian (not Vancouver) team won.

Epic first two games! Both go into OT tied at 1-1. The Hawks/Wild Game was a trill a minute in the 3rd period. LA showed life late and scored at the last possible second. Quick pulled a Brodeur to end that game. Getting beat on an unassisted short-handed goal not even half way through a 4 min PP is a rough way to drop Game 1 if your the Kings. I think of the two losing teams tonight, LA has the better chance of bouncing back.

Meanwhile the Wild were so close to getting a crucial game 1 they had to have. Suter played something like 45-50 minutes. That's a lot for the first game in the first round. That could have ramifications for Game 2 which is now a MUST WIN for MINN. If they go down 0-2 to the Hawks, it could very well be a sweep. I felt bad for Hardy, he comes in at the last minute and plays his head off after giving up a podunk goal in the first few minutes of the game. He got beat by a 2 on 1 breakaway in the end and there wasn't much he could have done about that. The Wild can be a likable bunch but I'm not sure they can bounce back from this one. Hard to say a team is "done" after a Game 1 but Chicago is such a beast and Minn. needed this one more than the Kings needed it against the Blues.

I don't think they have much of a chance but i'm going with Isles. In no other sport is the number 8 seed so successful then in the sport of Hockey and they happen to be the Hottest team going into the playoffs. In the month of may 8-1-3 with the only loss being a shootout loss... LET'S GO ISLANDERS!!!

Pretty good OT hockey in Det, and now that series is tied.

Best game of the play-offs was tonight in Washington. The tension the entire game was unreal. I can't stand Boyle and his retaliatory penalty was lit the Caps on fire and they dominated the rest of the game. If it weren't for a few spectacular saves from Hank, the game would have ended in regulation. So far that's been the best series overall and the NHL gods have granted at least one and possibly two Game 7's on Sunday. Let's hope the Isles can make it happen.

Being a ranger fan, I of course loved game 7 last night. Rarely do you have a game 7 be a blow out, they are usually down to the wire. The Bruins/ Leafs game last night must have been incredible to watch. Bruins down 3 goals with 10 or 11 minutes in 3rd period and come back to win in OT. That is unheard of. Bruin fans must be on cloud 9, bring on my Rangers.I doubt they can do that against us.
Leaf fans, man they need a hug today.

Yeah the story today is all about Boston's miraculous comeback when it should be about Toronto's spectacualar choke job. The couldn't keep a two goal lead with a minute thirty left in a game seven. That's just aweful. What also gets lost is just before the two goals Toronto had a breakaway and missed the net. If that puck gets buried the two goals at the end wouldn't have mattered anyway. Having turned off the Caps game (in disgust) I watched one of the greatest chokes in NHL history.

As for the Caps/ Rangers game, what a clunker of a Game 7. I would have rather Game 6 & 7 been reversed because after the 1st period, all the drama (and fans) had left the building. This time yesterday half the sports talk shows were focused on how Torts is on the line. Today he's a hero. I think if your NY, you would have much rather Tornoto won the game last night because really the Leafs aren't nearly as good as Boston. That said, I don't have a whole lot of faith in the Bruins either because they shouldn't have never let the series get to a Game 7 in the first place.

Bruins fan here. I was so sick last night after the score was 4-1 I had to go out and do some yardwork cause I couldn't watch anymore. Reimer was having a great series and playing great again, Toronto looked amped and the Bruins looked dead and done at that point. I come back in with 51 seconds left in regulation and it's 4-4. I said what the ****. I'm still trying to figure it out. From what I can tell from all the talk, is Toronto just sat back at that point and quit attacking.

I'm not to worried about NY as far as skaters, but Lundquivst is an amazing goalie. I'm not sure Boston will be able to get through them this year, but either way it should be a good/tough series as usual.

Two game 7's this week!! Great game so far but I'm pulling for the Sharks tonight despite them having Scott Gomez (because seriously, screw that guy.) I still think the Kings got away with the cup last year on the Bernier play especially since the ref that called that ridiculous penalty said earlier this year that when it happened to Gionta, he let it go because he wanted to let the players play but when Bernier did it a minute later, he had to call it. He was trying to justify the call but after I heard that, it just made the whole thing sound worse. Fun Fact: The same crew officiated the Rangers/Caps series this year too and judging by the lack of calls in Game 7, I guess he was back to the "let them play mentality." I don't hate the Kings but I cannot root for them. Hopefully however this series turns out I can root for the Blackhawks in the next round.
