R.I.P. George Jones. The Ol' Possum is gone.

I'm terribly sad, for last Friday George Jones died at the Vanderbilt University Medical center in Nashville, TN. The man was a hero to me.

The Possum had the best voice in the history of recorded music, and his approach to Country Music, and to the history of American pop culture will never be forgotten. I'm terribly sad, for now The Hag is the last man standing. The day he dies, Country Music will be finally gone for good. Garth Brooks killed it, and whatever is regarded as "Country" nowadays is anything but that.

Here's a link to the (sad) news: http://todayentertainment.today.com/...-recorded?lite

And a TV appearance from 1980, performing another Billboard #1 hit song.

..."Not a dry eye in the house" says the host Ronnie Prophet after listening to George. Check out why:

I agree on all counts, although I would add Willie in with Hag as the last living legend of Country Music.

@wayne foundation 07: not my favorite single by the Possum, but YES, who's gonna fill HIS shoes now?
@Earth 2 Chris: yeah, but Willie defined himself as an outlaw 40 years ago
@Hector: I appreciate your words, man. And so I'm sure everyone who loved ol' George does the same.

He was the original drunk lawnmower driving redneck

eidted to add, my only beef with him is they used to say he'd beat the sh_t out of Tammy on a regular bases --- not cool
