I was wondering if the new Mego action figures that are coming to stores soon worth buying. Will they flood the mrket and make the vintage Megos less valueable. Where will they be for sale, Wal Mart Target, etc. If they are exactly the same how do you know if a new Mego hasn't been put in vintage packaging. Should I just buy the new ones and continue to buy vintage when I can? Any insight would be welcome.

With money being as tight as it is, if I purchase anything it is for my collection and nothing more and is something I truly want. I am not in any way concerned with future or resale value. Once it's mine it stays with me. My only concern is for those unscrupulous people who will sell repro as vintage and how much more often it will now happen. This puts much more emphasis on our marketplace and the honest members within. Ebay could get flooded with scammers. Just watch, in a year from now there will suddenly be a lot of "vintage" secret identity Bruces for sale there.I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.
If anyone here believes in psychokinesis, please raise my hand.Comment

Truth. I would buy everything you want that is vintage sooner than later if it is about to reproduced. Or go the other way: I would sell everything you have that is vintage and going to be reproduced. The fair market value today will likely shift when these new figures enter the bloodstream and make things very difficult. If you plan on being buried with your toys, then this won't make a difference.Comment

These will not be available mass market. Either support your local hobby/toy/comc shop or simply order direct form CTVT.
Regarding whether you should buy them or not....just buy what you like. Pay what you want. Don't worry about value. The value is up to you to decide, I plan on enjoying every second of the new "remakes".Comment

Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and insight. I am not so worried that my Megos will go down in value as I never plan to sell them. I am just more worried that people will never really know anymore if the vintage Mego they just bought is truly vintage. I am fairly new to this hobby but can make cards that look and feel very much like an original 1977 card. If I can do this, someone with much more skill than I have can pull this off as well. I will most likely buy whatever new Megos are for sale when they arrive in stores. I cannot see myself at some store looking at a Riddler, Joker, etc. and putting it back on the shelf.Comment

Up close you'll be able to. Materials technology has changed a lot over the last 40 years. 'Course, this idea hilights one of the reasons collectibles are a bad investment.

If prices on my few missing Megos go down (Batgirl, Conan), I'd still go for vintage, to complete my original line-up.
And I'm not going to start collecting the new reproduction ones when I have my vintage collection.
The new Batman 66, that's different, they're something else. Completely new figures are welcome....

Ok
Stop and think, all this stuff that is repro. is already out there.
We already have dr mego to thank for that. (good or bad take your pick).
You already have new apes, new trek, etc. you can expect the same kind of market reaction.
I think in the short term vintage Conan will drop. Maybe Riddler too.
We will see a few new guys brought in to the hobby, but dont expect a major flood.
Some of these lines will fail and if they put out to many at once thet will take the company with them.
The dukes, evil, and a few others dont have a stong enough market to be remade and is a bad call.
The conan ,kull market is strong with a core group that will buy.
The new batman stuff if done right will save these guys from the poor call of making the weaker lines.Comment

I think investing in collectibles long term is a terrible idea. I think repro figures devaluing the market is probably one of the lesser concerns in doing this.
There's some figures I have an attachment to owning the authentic versions, but in a lot of cases I just like the aesthetics of a figure, and I use repro parts for those anyway. So I'm really exited to see the new line.
I don't think semi knowledgable collectors will be fooled by repros in general.Comment

I learned a valuable lesson when it took me two weeks to move my collection from my basement into storage for remodeling. It takes a village...I discovered (and 'discover' is not overstating it) that I had multiple figures of so many lines from vintage to current, that I was starving out my most prized pieces. So I'm currently doing an inventory of stuff I'm going to just sell off as I start to realign and redisplay my new room. Jordan would have a field day. So my typical impulses to just "BUY" because it's new is no longer a measuring stick here. I can't just chase after the shelf experience every time something is remade, so I can experience getting it "new" again. There's too much personal waste in there for me. So I would mimic what many have already said here. Just get those things you want. BUT don't double up. It fosters bad habits that sometimes you're not even aware of. Enjoy those figures for YOUR reasons and let the companies and traders worry about it's success or aftermarket value.
