Richard was probably best known for his brief role as Admirial Motti in Star Wars Episode IV:A New Hope. May he rest in peace.

Man, so many April deaths. It's a real shame. R.I.P.sigpic
The event where the fans are separated from the true fans. -
Met him once back when the Star Wars cast was doing the "Men Behind The Masks Tour" Uncle Owen, Porkins, Lobot...so many of those guys have passed on now. He was one of the nicest guys. Very personable and would love to tell the story of how he wouldn't take the role of an unnamed character. He signed a picture of the Death Star with his name and an arrow pointing to a spot that said "My Office...""Many Shubs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Sloar that day I can tell you."Comment

He was the first special guest at our SciFi convention here.
I took him to lunch and dinner for two days, and got to know him.
He did have a bit of drinking problem, because he was drinking brandy like water. After lunch, he already had his fill, which resulted in him "cutting prices" on his autographs. In the morning, he had charged $20, by the end of the day, he was asking $10, which didn't sit well with fans who had bought them early. He's an Imperial Officer, what did you expect, guys?
My fondest memory of Richard is the following. My co-organisor always treated guests like royalty "may I call you Richard, mr. Leparmentier?" "Is the food to your liking, sir?"
By the end of the day, Richard obviously had had his fill of fans (I don't blame him), and wanted to "see the sights". My friend pointed him to historical points of interest (our 9th century medieval castle), but Richard was more down to earth: "Just point me towards the red light district, ok?"
He signed a photo for me (with him grasping his collar) and he signed it "I told the Death Star laundry service to use less starch, but do they listen?"
I like a guy with a sense of humor.
Richard, here's to you!.
