I took my oldest ( 8 year old) to the official GI Joe con in Indianapolis. I was a jerk and took no pictures, but we had a really good time.
I've been to Joe-lanta a couple of times, but I've never been to the official con before. I tend to be more of a 12 inch collector than the 3&3/4 inch guys, but the Kreo- Lego style figures have gotten my attention. The con had a good if not great selection of classic 12 inch stuff. Most of the mint stuff was going for premium prices, but it was still great to see stuff mint in package that I've never seen before (or at least since I was a kid).
I was really overwhelmed with how many dealers all had the same 3&3/4 inch figures from the Hub Renegades show, Rise of Cobra, and Retaliation. I know Joe is the theme of the con, but man some 3&3/4 inch variety would have been welcome.
I scored some 12 inch modern (U.S.) Action Man figures and a motorcycle. Most people hate the U.S. Action Man line, but it's cornry and reminds me of the best of the AT.
My youngster had his eyes set on Kreo figures before we even entered the dealers room and he scored plenty. I even picked up one of the AT fuzzhead Keros' and managed to get a second in a blind pack I randomly bought.
I also picked up a bag of mego parts including 4 figures and some random other pieces for $10. They always say you get the best used Toyotas at the Honda dealership, and I think that motto applies to toy cons as well. I passed on a second bag with a beater Batman, a hulk with a broken arm, and a 3rd figure I can't remember also for $10.
I also met a very cool guy who's done 3-d scans of Joe figures. You can spin the figure 360 degrees and the work it top notch. You can check it out at the link below.

It was really a fun day to spend with my son. While we had a great time, I'm not sure I'd travel very far for the convention. I live in Columbus Ohio, but I'm from Indianapolis so it's a short 3 hour drive to grandma's house for us. If it's ever close again, I'd definitely go.
