The season premiere had record ratings for the show, and according to news reports was also the most illegally downloaded show in history, woo-hoo! (over 160,000 simultaneous peers shared one torrent file of the episode. Refreshingly, HBO head of programming said that he takes that fact as a compliment )

At least, this season and next will cover book three, not sure if future seasons will be spread out like that. The problem is that George RR Martin better start cranking the books out faster, or the TV series will catch up, then what happens?

We had some friends over for the premiere. My wonderful wife cooked a special dinner from the "Game of Thrones Cookbook": beef and bacon pie, buttered beets, crusty white bread, and lemon cakes... a feast fit for a king (of the Seven Kingdoms). Food was awesome and we had a lot of fun.

The episode mainly just checked back in with characters to remind us where we left off in season 2... which I guess I expected in the 1st episode... but I still thought it had some great moments. I loved the scenes with Tyrion and his family. I also liked that they kept the "creative translation" thing at the slavers market from the books. And the dragon cooking the fish... how cool was that!

I want to come live at your house, Spry. My lovely wife is an awesome cook, but has no interest in Game of Thrones.

Super psyched for the premiere, it's been a longgggg winter. It's going to be a blockbuster season, plenty of fireworks. They can take all the time they want building up, I'm glad to be lingering in Westeros again. I'm glad Tywin isn't my old man!

The T.V. show writers will have to think of...original stories to tell! How awful would that be?!

Thank goodness I had a free preview of HBO over the weekend so I was able to watch it. I have been waiting for these to hit dvd but I think I will have to cave and order HBO this week. I loved a Storm of Swords and I will be curious as to what parts make season 3 and what will be saved for season 4.

Man, I love this show. I loved the first 3 books, but 4 and 5 were both major disappointments to me. I'm really excited about this season and the next as book 3 was probably my favorite in the series. Glad to see they're giving it 2 full seasons instead of glossing over some really good stuff.

Unfortunately, that also means that they'll probably spread books 4 and 5 over 2 seasons each, so we'll have 4 years worth of that hot mess before Martin (hopefully) adds another book to the series. I think they're going to combine books 4 and 5 since there is little to no character overlap between the two books.

With the reputation the series has for gratuitous nudity, I found it interesting that they showed a grand total of 3 nipples this episode and one of them got cut off. Then again, my nipple counting may be off. Glad to see we can say nipple on this site, but the word sp00n is censored.

I have a rough idea where they will probably split it, but I'm not going to ruin it for people who haven't read the books.

Yeah, book three is my favourite so far, book four was kind of meh, but I'm enjoying book five more than that one. I've been curious how they will handle the lack of character overlap in books four and five (these two books take place concurrently for the most part). I would think that some viewers wouldn't like to have important characters just disappear for a whole season before coming back. I'm guessing that those two books will be mixed and matched a bit for the TV adaptation, they were originally planned as one book anyway.

Where was Strong Belwas? He is one of my favourite characters.

Looks like he may have been written out of the story for the TV version. Maybe because Barristan Selmy is revealed as such to Dany right away, compared to the book where it was a slow reveal (which was more possible in prose compared to a visual medium).
