So, I have this mouse in my truck...

Ok, my work/personal truck is an 04 Dodge King cab short bed, 5.7 Hemi, roof racks and tool box. I love this this thing. I also love peanuts. I keep a bag of them w/shells between my front seats, have done this for ever. I just peel them, toss the shells on my floor, then sweep them out when I get home.
So, I get my 1lb bag of peanuts, have a few and think nothing more. 2 days later, a 1lb bag of peanuts is gone, tiny hole chewed in the bag, small droppings on floor matt.
Well, I guess the shells on the ground attracted a mouse. Not any mouse, but some kind of super-stealth mouse. I know about mice mind you. I worked at farm where I cleaned and fed about 20,000 mice every weekend bred for lab use. I tear apart my truck and find a spot behind my seat and under my tools where it looks like some kind of "Mouse Rave Party" was going on. So, I get a "live catch" trap. He breaks out of that like it was nothing. Then I get kill traps, use peanut butter for bait. Trap wiped clean and not sprung. I am starting to feel like Tom on Tom & Jerry!

I get meeces in my garage (I was dumb enough to store bags of bird seed out there) and have found these to be pretty efficient:

I also store bird sunflower seed in my garage, and have never had a problem. My wife's car is usually parked in the garage, and when I popped the hood to check her oil a couple weeks ago, the top of the battery was covered with sunflower shells. A big ol' pile of 'em!

I set out a live trap a couple nites ago.. used it successfully a few years ago for a cellar mouse. It was triggered last nite, but no mouse inside..

Down on the farm, we always stored feed in the old style metal garbage cans with tight fitting lids. Mice and rats amoung other rodents, will chew through just about any other material. Leave the feed in the bag. It makes stock rotation a lot easier. Metal garbage cans should be new (Not rusting out) and free of dents that warp the fitting of the lid. Rodents can fit through very tiny openings. Elastic cord with hooks can help, but if the lid doesn't fit tight, it makes little difference than leaving the lid off.
Debris is the calling card. Don't put off cleaning up after yourself.
Sprung clean traps with no trapped rodents, gives me the impression that these rodents are quite ajusted to living off the human enviorment. If they can live in your garage, how safe is your home and the tasty collectibles therein?

Ooh, I know that feeling. I think we have a field mouse in the house right now, and dang if I can catch him. Little sucker has gotten into the bagged dog food AND the bird seed. And I've set kill traps with PB and found the PB licked off and the trip unsprung. I put some live traps out recently. PB, bird seed and cracker crumbs and STILL nothing. I'm beginning to think he lives outside and just comes in for the buffet...

As far as mice in cars, I have a story there too. About 12 years ago, I had an old beat-up late 80s Chrysler K-car I just drove back and forth to work. One day I'm driving home, and I could swear I saw something small run across the passenger floor board. When I get home I check around and find nothing. I dismiss it and go on. The very next day, I'm driving into work, and my wife is in her car behind me. I see the little sucker for sure this time, as he runs right under my seat. I pull into the nearest farm drive way and begin to hunt. My wife pulls up and asks what is going on, and I tell her to call my work and tell them I'll be a little late (this was before everyone had cell phones). I'm chasing this mouse all over my car and actually almost grab him a couple of times. Then I decide to pull the seats out and catch him. That's when I find them. Little, tiny, larva-like baby mice. A frickin' gaggle of 'em.

Now I'm a very humane person. My mother was an animal nut, but what could I do with these baby mice? I just scooped 'em up and set em out along the roadside. I still had the mama to find...and I couldn't. She was nowhere to be seen.

I went in to work, and my wife had called to tell them I'd be late. Unfortunately, she told them WHY I would be late. Every picture of a mouse on the internet had been printed out and taped all over my cubicle.

Later that night, I put out a trap with a carrot in it. The next day, mama mouse was in it.

To this day, I still regret killing baby mice. I'm such a softie.

I really don't want to kill the little fella, but I have to get it out of my truck. I would hate for it to chew my wires!

I you have mice that are deft enough to lck the trap clen, then you need to put something on there that hey will want to pull on. Cheese puffs are retry good for that. Even better with a little peanut butter on them. Make sure you work the puff onto the tab on the trigger for the trap.

Mice hate mint. The more natural the better. Straight peppermint leaves or oil of mint can keep them away. It's safe for pets and makes your house, or car in this case, smell nice. As long as you like the mint smell.
It's not a doll it's an action figure.
