So, who's going to see G.I. Joe this weekend?

This might be a fun movie, but the first left a bad taste in my mouth. They didn't have many of the original GI Joe RAH characters. And, many of the characters featured where in the first movie were not recognizable from the originals.

I suppose if it would have been truer to the GI Joe RAH's we knew from the 1980s, I'd be all for it.

I'm a 70's Joe child. But if enough reviews come in here, suggesting it's a fun ride, I'll probably check it out.

It was decent. Definitely a rental for those on the fence. More gi Josiah than the first, but save for a few scenes, a fairly generic action flick. The ninjas are easily the best part and I don't even like them all that much in the other forms of the lore.

I couldn't sit through the first movie; this one I enjoyed quite a bit.

Now, it is the epitome of a big, dumb action movie, but it was a whole lot of fun. The plot is cheesy in the best way, like The love child of a James Bond and A- Team plot. It's high, high, high concept, but it worked for me.

Now, I love the Rock and it very much is his movie. If you don't like the smell of what the Rock cooks", this movie is not for you. But all the characters get their moments, some to a lessor degree.

Bruce Willis comes off great in the movie as the original GI Joe, and his home has quite a few nods to the 60s and 70s version of the action figure that was fun to see.

Adrianne Palicki looks hot as Lady Jaye. The ninja stuff is fun. I just enjoyed the movie and I like the fact that it made no apologies for what it is.

There is no pretense that the movie is more than just an action romp. It doesn't over think itself or attempt to validate itself.


Now, film reviewers and critics are going to ravage this movie, but they don't get it. It is what it is. It's not trying to be Zero Dark Thirty; it's a live-action cartoon, and I mean that in the best way. It's the movie equivalent of cotton candy, but every now a then cotton candy hits the spot.

It reminds me of a latter day Flash Gordon, though without the Queen soundtrack. Very much in the spirit of the comic or cartoon without trying to ground it or worry about realism.

The film does have more profanity than I expected for a film based on toys, but not as much as an average action film or probably your average session of recess at most elementary schools.

Here's a heads up for all you sitting on the fence for this one....Best Buy has a wide variety of Blu-Ray movies on sale for $9.99 that come with a free ticket to GI Joe II so basically, by a Blu-Ray DVD and go see the movie for nothing.

Good Lord. If you're taking a ten year old, they'll like it.

But, honestly, as much as I hate this cliche, do check your brain at the door.

It is so preposterous. I mean, beyond reason absurd.

And that's what I really don't get. All they had to do was watch the first Joe cartoon movie and basically follow that.

Oh, and it's cheap. They do a good job of covering that, but that was a cheap production.

The good side is that is much closer to GI Joe in concept than the wannabe superhero flick the first one was.

I was very disappointed with the first film, I thought it was actually worse than The Phantom Menace. And I am not a RAH cartoon purist, I always thought the comic was better and more dramatic because people could die. but the first film was almost as bad as Megaforce with better effects. While on the one side how could it possibly be worse than that on the other side I'd be even angrier to be proven wrong again this franchise.

The idea of General Joe and the strike team is another one right from the comics (Marvel issue 86) when a govt agent named Joe (looking very like the AT commander) and the lady scientist he is protecting Jane are protected by Hawk and the team for joe's 25th anniv.

I saw it, and it was enjoyable. My son and his friend liked it, so a good time was had by all. There are a few head-scratching plot holes you could drive a truck through, but it's not nearly as insulting to your intellect as the previous flick. The cast was much better overall too. The Rock and Willis had some fun moments.

They all are for me these days. For me, there's nothing I miss about the theater. I like my memories of them to stay WHERE they are.

I actually love going to the movies, but I have certain tastes, GI Joe is not my type of movie, I hated the first one, so why waste my time with this one.

The last movie I saw at the theater was Django, I loved it, I'm biased though, because Tarrantino is one of my all time favorite directors, and I love all his movies.

I'll pass on 99% of the movies released this year, but you better believe I'll be first in line for The Man of Steel, lol.
