I thought Welker was an issue here. Urlacher's quoted as saying he would have taken 2 years 6M, if they would have just come back to the bargaining table. They offered 1 year 2M. With all the crap money spent how can this guy not be necessary with a new coach coming in. He was the leader of the defense and the face of the franchise.

Loyalty has ceased to exist in pro sports, if it was ever there at all. He's pretty much all but done anyway. Great player in his day, but that day was a while ago. I was hoping he'd just retire on his terms, but I'm betting he'll get injured yet again and be forced into retirement.I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.
If anyone here believes in psychokinesis, please raise my hand.Comment

wow .... It's upsetting ..., But When U Think About it ..., They Let Lovie go with a 10-6 Record. But Getting Rid of Urlacher can't be no Answer. There Offense was real Bad..., Starting with that Line.... The Original Knight ..., Often Imitated, However Never Duplicated. The 1st Knight in Customs.

Im bummed that Ed Reed is leaving the Ravens after so many years but he's got about a year or 2 left. As much of a bad *** as he (and this is coming from a Ravens fan) is he gets injured to much and only plays half a season.
Yea that sucks for the bears!Comment

Watch Dallas get him. Add to our debt of aging players that have no market value outside of the teams they played for. Urlacher should have finished out his career as a Bear. He made that team really good in his prime. Those days are over though. He was hurt alot last year and it's hard to stay healthy once you start down that path at his age. Your just more prone to it because of the toll your body has taken all those years.Comment

As a huge Bears fan, I thought this would trouble me more. I loved watching him anchor the defense year-in and year-out. However, the things that made him such a force on defense are the things that are disappearing now: the speed, the reaction time, etc. I don't think there's any doubt he could play at a respectable level next year. I'm a little surprised the Bears didn't offer him 2 and 6 for a contract, as it's not a ton of money. On the other hand, at some point you need to move on and it's better to lose a guy one year too early than hold onto him one year too long.
I don't think the market out there is really strong for a guy like him. I can see teams like Jacksonville or Buffalo offering him the best contract, as they could both use some veteran leadership on that side of the ball. So, will Urlacher take the money from a team like that, or will he accept a lesser offer from a team that has SB aspirations for this year? Frankly, I just don't see too many SB contenders out there looking for a guy like him to do some spot playing. Let's face it, he's not an every-down defender any more. How valuable is a guy like Urlacher to any team that isn't the Bears?
Regardless, it's going to be weird to see him in any kind of uniform except blue and orange.Comment

Offering him 2 million was a slap in the face. I'm not a Bears fan by any means. I hope he goes to the Packers or the Vikings and destroys the bears when they play.Comment
