Tastes you remember from times you remember

Angelos Pizza was a staple where I grew up and my Dad would bring it home every Friday night when we would watch the late night horror show :-)

My Gram used to make me these awesome Grilled Cheese sandwiches for lunch when I was in elementary school the cheese was Government cheese that came in like a Velveta box and the Cheese was a big block and it just said Cheese on the box

Also Something that reminds me of the late 70's early 80's is the Taco Bellbeefer I hated Tacos and such when I was younger but my whole family loved them so when my Mom would take us there I figured it looked like a burger I tried it and was hooked :-)

What do these 3 things have in common you cant get them anymore :-(

Oh and 1 more thing Chief Boyardi Lasanga kit Gram used to make this all the time when I was a kid and I loved it I remember eating it buy the porcelin heater watching scooby doo and burning my feet on the heater (you would think after the first time I would have learned to keep my feet off the heater)

I saw a couple of comments on YouTube about pizza and late night horror movies (Chiller Theatre), which is what prompted one of the examples of a food memory. Was that you?

When I lived w/ my dad, we used to get government cheese and butter blocks too. I made some mean fried cheese sanwiches!

Vanilla milkshakes always remind me of stopping on the ride home from my grandparents house, my Pap would always stop at this little drive-in resteraunt for milkshakes. Carmel corn & black licorice remind me of him too, as he kept a bag of each on the front seat of his car.

Wasnt me for Chiller Theater we were Big Chuck and Hoolihan (Which later became Big Chuck and Lil. John) But it was the same time frame and seems the late night Horror show Pizza and Dad is pretty common :-)

Yep Gram used the butter as well. I knew someone else would remember these Grilled Cheese sandwiches :-) They were awesome!!!!

Whenever I eat a premade frozen cheeseburger ie roach-coach burger I always think of my old local drive-in movie food stand.

When I think of a certain supermarket on Long Island I think about this candy my dad used to buy. You used to buy it by the pound. It was square (similar the common square Caramel candies) and it was white with like yellow, red and green little dots off jelly in it. Kind of reminded you of a traffic light.

I still recall the taste of it and I have not been able to find it. I've searched for years and years and years to no avail.

I vaguely recall that candy, as well. Wow, flashback! Someone here must know what candy that is.

The smell and taste of Corn Dogs and Pronto Pups take me back to the annual Fall Festival in Evansville, IN. They still have them "today", but it takes me back to childhood...along with the apple cider and candy apples from the same fall festival.

I fondly remember 1976, the bicentennial and the commemorative ice cream we had locally in Evansville, In. I have no idea if anyone else in the country had it, but to this day was the best I've ever had. It literally was like a flag with red and white stripes and a bit of blue. Inside the blue were little sugared stars that tasted like butter cream cake icing. actually the entire ice cream had that wedding cake flavor. My first baseball team played across the street form the shop.

Oh, and it anyone still like fried bologna, try it grilled. I get it cut thick, throw it on the grill and get the edges crispy and put it on toast with colby cheese.

I'm certain that this is not the ice cream you're referring to, but here is a photograph of Borden's Bicentennial Ice Cream and an Ad for the same ice cream.

This is a good subject!
Mines is the smell of freshly made popcorn with clorine..What your probably saying..Let me explain.
Back in the years 1977-86 every summer me and family belonged to a swim club/ country club. We went there at least 5 days a week on our summer vacations from school. I have nothing but good memories going there..of course I stopped going in my rebellious teenage years..lol.
They made fresh popcorn there. I can remember getting out of the pool and going to go buy it at the stand where they sold it and eat it.
FLASH FORWARD last year at my apartment complex im sitting there by poolside on my day off. This kid sits next to me and he had freshly made popcorn. Then it hit me..INSTANTLY I was transported back in time to those summers of youth. I had not smelled that smell in 25 years easily..I had to get up cause I was getting chocked up. I called my mom instantly and reminded her of those summers (she thinks Im a nostalgic boo..that is until she visited the same pool with my aunt last summer and lost it because we spent my entire chilhood and the memories hit her all at once..,thats another story though)
Anyway that smell takes me back to another time in another place that I wish I could return to.

Dr. Pepper always reminds me of family vacations in the Station Wagon. In the days before air conditioning in cars, the car would get wicked hot in the summer. Us 4 kids would spill our sodas in the car, and any that didn't get wiped up would under the intense heat, turn into a sticky smelly Dr. Pepper syrup.
