    RIP, The Clone Wars

Disney/Lucasfilm has made it official that The Clone Wars has ended it's run after 5 seasons on Cartoon Network. They've also decided to push Star Wars Detours back a bit in favor of a new animated series as well as the upcoming live action sequel trilogy and the planned stand alone films. Personally, I'd rather see TCW end after 5 good seasons then to begin limping along and wear out it's welcome. (cough)Simpsons(cough).

Man, that was a deadly blow on my court, my son was the bearer of bad tidings to his crew of kids that walk around making light saber sounds. He was even aware of detours.

I never got into clone wars but I could see why it had appeal.

I didn't follow it as closely as I should have, but it's the best thing to happen to Star Wars since ROTJ, for sure.

Thinking that maybe TCW will be the subject of one of those stand alone films that the folks at Disney/Lucasfilm are planning on doing. Would like to see Ashley Eckstein make a live action appearance as Ahsoka on the big screen. Granted she's a voiceover actress, but I think she could pull it off.

the latter half of this season has been good, no doubt about it, but lets face it, the clone wars was getting tired. i was really having a hard time being interested anymore and I am a die hard SW fan

It was a good show and Ahsoka was the best thing to come from the prequels, in my opinion. But I can understand why Disney felt it was time to move on. Storywise, I feel, it has pretty much run its course. Plus the heavy focus on the prequels and prequel characters has damaged SW as a brand. So, I can see why Disney would want to distance themesleves from the prequels while they try to rebuild the brand in anticipation of the new movies. Especially after the disaster that was Phantom Menace 3D.

So many storylines left unfinshed, seems like that's norm now when well-liked shows get cancelled.

Some of the episodes of TCW were genuinely good, while some were just mediocre.

As the second season of the original Tartakovsky animated TCW series dovetails into the beginning of Revenge of the Sith, showing Palpatine's abduction, I'd like to know how they plan to wrap the current series up and specifically what'll happen to the character of Ahsoka.

Never being a fan of the prequels, I actually thought this series was descent. I enjoyed what I saw. But as Bionicfanboy66 says, it's better to go out strong than with a whimper. At some point I'll probably pick this up on DVD.

I'm not sure that The Phantom Menace 3-D qualifies as a disaster. Overall the 3-D re-release took in over 100M clams (40% of which was domestic receipts) in a limited engagement. Not bad for 22 days in wide release and 116 days altogether.
That's better than all of the following films:

This is 40 - Judd Apatow's follow-up to Knocked Up
Here Comes the Boom - A Kevin James gem
Frankenweenie - Disney/Tim Burton. Released during Halloween
                        Beauty and the Beast 3-D
                        Finding Nemo 3-D
                        Red Dawn
                        Madea's Witness Protection
                        Rock of Ages

Sorry to go off topic. . .

The Clone Wars may or may not be at an end. The word is that some further adventures will be produced tht might show up as special features elsewhere. I think this wind-down has more to do with getting the series off Cartoon Network than running out of ideas. Disney-Lucasfilm has the live action series on the shelf and a series on Disney XD would be a wonderful promotional tool for the upcoming trilogy and stand alones.

If you've listened to the SW podcasts from sites like Yakface with people that have talked to and interviewed the brand managers at Hasbro, you would know how much damage PM3D has done to the SW brand. First of all, they said if PM3D turned a profit, it just barely squeeked by. The 3D conversion process wasn't the expensive part of the re-release. Adverstising and promotion isn't cheap by any stretch. Easy eating up what it took in at the box office. Now there's the damage it did to the SW brand. It just about killed SW at retail. Hasbro is having to rebuild the brand from the ground up. Stores shelves, stock rooms and warehouses are still glutted with PM3D product. One of the Walmart's near me just put out 4 pegs full of PM Ric Olie. Love or hate PM, there is no denying how much damage it did to the brand. No way to sugar coat it, it was an absolute disaster.

Disney cancelling the other 3D prequel releases speaks volumes. Had PM3D been successful they'd be tripping over themselves to get the other movies in the theaters and AOTC and ROTS toys in stores.
