Rented a Spot in a Local Antique/Collectibles Shop

One of the reasons why I have not been posting in the Market Place is because last January, I rented out a display cabinet at a local Antiques/Collectibles Mall. It's a pretty big place I've been going to for years now. 11,000 square feet and 2 floors with 60+ dealers.

Sadly February wasn't a good month. I barely made the rent, which really, really sucks. March is looking a better though.

Eventually I'd like to get more high end stuff in there. Although stuff does move faster on eBay. I originally got the space because I thought it would be good for stuff I didn't think would be worth selling on eBay and smaller things. For example, selling common NES games on eBay for $3 isn't worth the time, but they sell like crazy at $5 each in the store. Same with loose figures. I quickly realized that I would not be able to make it unless I started to put bigger, more quality items in. So I moved a lot of my eBay inventory in it.

My dad also buys and sells, but is not computer savy at all and my mother had a Depression Glass collection for years she's been wanting to sell, so I figured this would be a good way to do all that. The pics show mostly my stuff.

Neat stuff. I always liked the old Kenner Wampa. Cute toy.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Looks nice. A good, eclectic mix of stuff that should appeal to a broad audience.

My wife and I have toyed with this. She sells and trades MUCH more than me, so our booth would be pretty Barbie heavy.

very cool, just curious how much rent is it for a shelf like that? there's an antique mall here that does the same thing so I want to compare

The massive antique mall that my wife and I visit every few weeks has 1000 dealers, and they charge $50/month for a display case comparable to what Den82 is using.

You'd think that given all those dealers, you'd see a fair amount of Mego, right? Nope. Been a couple yrs since I've seen anything worth a damn.

The space is bigger than what is shown in the picture. There is another side equal to what is shown and also two shelves at the bottom and I can put stuff on top of the case and on the floor in front of it as well.

It's $125 a month. The space is of course only as good as the stuff you have in it. If I do not get good stuff in it, then I will fail.

March seems pretty good so far. But if in the future it doesn't start to improve, I will just have to leave and strictly do eBay

yea for $125 you're gonna have to work your butt off in thrift shops and flea markets to get new inventory every week.....but not a bad price

                $50 is a sweet deal

For the last two months, I've been driving to Jersey for a monthly auction to get stuff. However, this month it looks as if I will not be able to attend. I might go, but I am not sure. I have two days to decide if it will be a good idea or not.

125 is not bad, on Long Island right? How do your sales get handled, I mean your not there right?

Cool. Antique Mall is part of my hustle as well. I basically run lots of lower end items--knick knacks, records and vintage clothes. If you can get it going it's totally worthwhile. I looked over my numbers from last year and figured I was turning about $300 profit a month. Not bad considering you don't have to work it......keep at it!

I do have a couple of booths around here, one even lets me put my cards on the case asking to buy toys... No rent, just commission on the sales...

Another dealer who I've known for a few years just moved in too. He has a lot of vintage toys and video games, including Dukes Megos.
