Fabulous 1960's console stereo from Grandma's basement

    Stereo.jpg

Object: Fabulous 1960's console stereo from my Grandma's basement
Decision: How to best use it?
Choice #1: As a stereo! Mount a 10,000 song tablet under the lid and add some new speakers.
Choice #2: As a bar! Store my booze bottles under lid. Put two stemware racks in the center and set my other glasses on the right side shelves.
    What do you think?

    Why not both?

Yeah, I picture a martini set on top, but there's no reason you can't have tunes, too.

It has to be one or the other. The way I want to do the stereo would not leave room for bottles. I would mount the tablet flush under the lid,...which is where bottles would have to be if I made it into a bar. We also have so much barware that we will have to thin out the collection just to fit it in the cabinet, so no room for glasses and speakers.

I don't drink, so I'd go for the stereo option. I think that would be really cool to have something like that set up. Great conversation piece too.

That's pretty neat, and reminds me a lot of the one my grandparents had. That hing was HUGE. The size of a large buffet table. It had the record console in the middle, and storage cabinets on the side. It ran the length of two full size windows in their living room for years.

We don't drink much either, but when we do, it is from the correct type of glass, so I have LOTS of glasses. I am leaning towards a bar because we already have laptops and tablets that connect to the house speakers, so a stereo would be a bit redundant. A bar would also free up two shelves of storage in the basement where we currently store all the bar ware. But the whole stereo thing is so awesome. Grrrr,....

After much debating, I decided to go with the bar. I have so many glasses and bottles that needed a home and our music is easy enough to do through our computers or iPods. It might not be everyone's style, but my blah main floor desperately needed a little touch of tackiness.

I saw a pic somewhere where some one removed the screen of a tv and insides added lights and converted it into a bar........thought it looked great....

NICE!! Very Eames looking especially with the shelving paper. Very mid century lounge. Now all you need is an El Gato Gomez painting above it and you'll be a true lounge lizard hipster.
