I'm having a Country song kind of week

    Hey Gang,
I'm not having a good week at all. Not sure if you all remember but a few years back my dog Shadow had to have part of her front paw removed due to cancer and alot of you pitched in to help me pay for the surgery and she has been in good health for 3 years (Shes now 14) and for that I will never be able to Thank You all enough. Well now she has what looks like the same thing on her back paw plus her hips are giving out she has a hard time getting up the back porch steps when she has to go out to use the bathroom. Shes not overweight and she still acts like a pup when she has a good day but her hips are going and that damn cancer is back Im like 99% sure of it she is going to the vet tomorrow at 3:00 and I know they are going to tell me its time to put her down. I have already told my kids because I dont want them to be in the dark about whats going on and they were crying for the most part of the night last night and spent time with her saying there goodbys. My wife took her in to Cleveland with her this morning to take her to her vet tomorrow and she will be calling me to talk to me about the options. I know in my heart its time to put her down Doing the right thing sometimes is the hardest thing to do. So when I went out to the bank last night to get the money for my wife to give to the vet my Master cylinder went out on my truck. So so far it looks like im going to lose Shadow and on top of that my Trucks broke down. I know what I need to do it just has to be done now.

Thanks for letting me vent. Like I've said before you all are like Family to me and I guess I just wanted to share whats going on.

    John

I'm so sorry John. That's really rough. Saying good-bye to a beloved pet is never easy. But I think it's safe to say that Shadow has had a good life w/ a loving family. And you know you don't want her to suffer. It's hard, but it may be best. Hang in there, hun. We're here for you.

I'm sorry to hear this. Your life sounds like mine back in November when I lost my beloved dog of 14 years to old age, my beloved 4Runner to a terminal case of frame rot, and all the equity in my home (due to a bad appraisal from our buyer's lending company) all in the span of 3 weeks. It was brutal.

You're right, doing the right thing is often the hardest thing to do. But, it's also the best thing to do. In the end, no matter how bad it gets, you need to keep remembering that the rest of your family is healthy, you're healthy, and this pain too will ease in due time. It never goes away completely, but it does get easier.

My wife and daughter and I all went to the vet at the same time to put her down. I was the only one who stayed in the room with her when it happened. When I looked into her eyes, she knew it was time to go as well. And suddenly, I felt this tremendous peace sweep over me. Yeah, it hurt like hell doing it, but in the end, it was more about what was right for her. If it's the right time, it's the right time. My feeling was that I'd rather carry the pain myself than to let her keep carrying it every day.

Good luck with whatever the next step is for you and your family. I hope everything ends as well as it can.

Man Im not going to lie I tierd up reading your post DH and it is for sure hitting home with me.

I just got off the phone with the vet and she told me they did blood work and Shadow has alot of cancer in her but she told me shes not ready to go yet and advised me to try and antibiotic for her and some pain meds that we would get refilled every 2 weeks (only $28 for the meds) and when Shadow is ready to go will we know because she will stop eating and just start looking like she is not feeling well. I asked her how long she thought Shadow would have left and she told me she really does not know it could be 3 eeks it could be 6 months could be longer and she thinks we should leave it up to her to decide so for now thats the way Im going to go if shes not in pain I will keep her going but once she starts to go down hill I will do what I think needs to be done. Thank You all for the kind words and the support it means alot to me :-)

Believe me, I tear up every time I think about it. I'm glad Shadow still has some time left with you. Treasure every moment of it.
