Clemens is on the stand testifying-LIVE-Now!

Clemens is on the stand testifying about steroid use-Live on CNBC. It’s on in the reception area and pantry where I work. One of the benefits of working in a office building. The guy is goin down in flames under questioning.

Has he said he thought it was a special mix of injectable Gatorade yet?

I'm watching it. They should just rename this hearing the Weasel Bowl. Congress is a bunch of weasels because each one is not asking objective questions, but rather grand standing and drawing fire on the one (Clemens or McNamee) they have already decided is guilty of not telling the truth. Then we have Clemens and McNamee who couldn't be bigger weasels in how they have answered these questions or in the manner they have screwed each other. Clemens has no credibility on anything and McNamee is also sitting there saying he lied to Congress about his last testimony.

What's funny is when the hearing started the first congressman stated McNamee had a great reputation within the league for being honest. Yet here we have a guy who's "outstanding character" directed him to save bloody gauzes and needles injected into Clemens years ago; covers for him when first questioned about steroid use, then throws him to the wolves when Clemens records a conversation supposedly clearing him of these allegations...All this and Clemens says they will remain friends even after this hearing? RIGHT...With friends like that, who needs enemies?

Here's the truth: Steroids are prevalent throughout baseball. McNamee most likely injected Clemens with steroids and covered for him when Congress initially questioned him. Then, incredibly, Clemens screws him by secretly recording a phone conversation to try and clear himself at McNamee's expense. McNamee is offended and is now throwing Clemens under the bus for doing something that stupid. Did I miss anything? Basically there is no good guy in this scenario. Both have lied to congress repeatedly. They deserve each other. Make them cell mates in the Federal pen.

You can get a live stream on WEEI from Boston too, if you're at work and want to listen to it.

Well, if the goal of this hearing was for Clemens to clear himself in the court of public opinion, then he miserably failed. From a legal perspective I'm sure the Feds will investigate (there were six present at the hearing, so they are very interested). Whether they can produce enough evidence to prove Clemens lied is another thing all together. I doubt the guaze and needle would be admissable. What we have is a p*ssing contest between Clemens and McNamee who confirmed he lied to Congress during his last deposition. The Feds will have to find something that can eliminate "reasonable doubt" and right now they don't have that. As far as public opinion goes, I think Clemens is sunk. He did not conduct himself as a person who was unfairly accused. It certainly looks like he used McNamee's cover as a "physician" to allow him to receive steroids. No one can be as naive as Clemens claimed and be as successful as he has been. He understands the system and his ignorance to the purpose of steroids is completely unbelievable. Clearly McNamee and Clemens were partners in the same crime. Clemens screwed up by selling out McNamme after he testified in his favor and McNamee, justifiably, through him under the bus. It goes back to the old saying: "There is no honor amongst thieves."

He will never admit it and will never make the hall because of the perception that he did it. I for one think he did steroids. No man bulks up in their 40's pure muscle and throws 95 mile per hour fastballs without help. I would have a lot more respect for him if he just said "Ya I did it, so what, you guys know we are all juiced".

SportsChannel has it on as special programming. It's like watching an accident clean-up. I try to look away, but I can't. It's hypnotic.

If only he had said, "yeah, we didn't know so much about the steroid stuff back then. I wish I didn't do it but now we all know better."

They could have saved themselves all this trouble. I think that most people know that it is prevelent in the sport. We just need someone to come up and say that it's not what we want for our sport so from now on... and then follow that up with some mandatory testing.
