1977, Star Wars, it really made me a die hard movie fan for life, saw it on its first run with my father, plus it came at the right age for me, 14-15 years old, it was the golden age of Mego as well, vinyl records, Farrah Fawcett, fun paper route with my cousin, really into comic books at the time, model building, vacation trips with the family, great awesome year for me.
And 1982 was legendary. So many awesome movies came out that year, that it must be considered one of the best genre years ever.
Just some of the highlights:
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
The Sword and the Sorcerer
Tron
The Thing
Blade Runner
Conan The Barbarian
Creepshow
The Dark Crystal
E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial
The Beastmaster
Poltergeist

1982 was a magical year. It seemed as if every time I went to the movies, another classic was added to the list. I always went back for a repeat viewing, so each week was a perfect week in 1982.
1977 was great for Star Wars, of course. I went to see it each week, over and over again. Every time, I took a friend with me to convince him just how great this movie was!
And every time I went, I bought an action figure to keep track of how many times I had seen it. I had 40 figures that year. A girlfriend would have been cheaper, I guess...

These classics came out in 1982 as well.

It seems like every movie I saw back then became a classic. Around this time my family got our first VCR. Our first Video Store where we lived was this dark dingy mom and pop store. LONG before the days of bright lights Blockbuster. I rented all the movies from this period the day they came out on tape. I always attributed the dark feel alot of those movies had to the store I rented it from.
It seems to this day you can always find a movie from 82-84 being played on cable at any given time.
