Sorry about your kitty. Maybe you should check the local shelter and see if your next best friend is waiting to be found. I hope you're doing okay.

Thank you everyone. On top of the loss I am feeling, I have an overwhelming amount of guilt and keep trying to find some answers as to how/why this had to happen. Truth be told, since the day I got her she showed signs that she was not right. Something in my heart knew something was wrong. As if her life was not meant to be and I feel guilt that instead of taking her to the vet more often, I went out to estate sales and auctions and crap.
The first time I took her to the vet was a few months ago. She was not eating, lost a lot of weight and had no energy. They gave her appetite enhancers and that helped, but she was very picky about what she ate and always felt boney. I always sensed she had dental issues.Comment

Don't beat yourself up. When I was having to put my dog down in 2005 from cancer, she got in the car with me and took that final ride. The whole way I felt like a bum because I could see in her eyes she thought she was going to get well like any other time. It killed me. No. It destroyed me. I eventually got over that by understanding that I did everything thing I could but I had reached a phase where I had to spare her the agony. You did everything you could. You loved that kitty and did everything in the world for her. And she knows that. She's at peace now and out of pain. Focus on the good times and cherish those times. She was lucky to have someone as good as you. She had a good life with you. What a gift! So many never get that chance. She will always be looking over you and be a part of your heart. You can never lose that. Hang in there.Comment

Very sorry to hear about your poor kitty. I've spent thousands in the past few years trying in vain to save my older cats afflicted with cancer and illnesses that the vets could never really identify, so I know how hard it all is.
Since your very young cat had chronic renal failure, chances are she had some sort of congenital defect. She definitely doesn't look "right" in those pictures. So don't beat yourself up about having done more.. you gave more life than she ever would have had otherwise, and that life was having someone who cared about her.Comment

So sorry about the loss of your beautiful little kitty...don't feel guilty though. You rescued her and gave her love and a good home while she was here. Even at the end, you can rest assured she knew she was loved and not alone. That's the most important thing.Comment

Please don't let yourself fall into the trap of guilt. We all have 20/20 hindsight, etc., and the wife & I started down the guilt path when our cat was diagnosed. The vet put a quick stop to that by telling us that cats are very good at hiding their illnesses until it's late in the game. It's frustrating, but what can you do? The cat can't tell you what's wrong, and even the vets struggle to diagnose their patients without hurting them more.Comment
