I'm looking forward to this film. I think its critic proof and from those who have been lucky enough to see it early (who are not part of the high brow critic community) they have liked it considerably. Sure there are some uneven spots in it. But the overwhelming response I'm hearing is it's a great ride and the 3D is actually worth seeing. I'm sold. We'll be going this weekend. I need some quality escapist fun right now.

What I don't really like about the new movie is in the books the Wizard was not great nor powerful. He was not a prophesized hero. He was a cruel conman and a fraud that tricked the people of Oz. He was not some kind of reluctant hero by any stretch of the imagination. Even in the loosely adapted 1939 MGM movie he didn't have any real power and was still a bit a fraud. Oh, well.

You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

I have to admit to never being an Oz fan. While I love Rami, this movie has pain written all over it for me. I'm curious to hear what fans think of it though.

That's exactly how Raimi and Franco described him as being portrayed.
