I remember going to the shore in the late 70s Briganteen Castle was pretty cool too and you didn't have to pay to go on the beach.

I wonder if the multi movie theatre outside of town is still there? or the movie theatre in downtown rehoboth off the bordwalk (where my grandfather wouldn't let me see THE BLUE LAGOON, AIRPLANE! or MEATBALLS to save my life..haha!)

The theater outside of town is still there! We catch a movie there every year. They redid the inside, but the outside looks just the same. I don't think the theater in Rehoboth is there, but I could be wrong about that.

Also, do you remember the target shoot with the rifles? Put in a quarter and you got 20 shots to shoot the outhouse and other western themed stuff. That was there up until about 5 or 6 years ago. Then it was gone all of the sudden. I really miss that

They still have one of those at Dutch Wonderland, though it's been consolidated into 1/2 of the space it used to have. Still, my son & I went through a few quarters there last summer, just like my dad & I used to.

Yea Im glad after all the things in my life that have changed that it's more or less still the same there. I wonder if they keep it like that on purpose?
Those arcades on the rehoboth boardwalk were larger than life to me as a kid back then. I remember one place must have had 50 pinball machines but I played GORGAR all day..haha.

Yes of course I remember that! How could I forget. I remember standing on the stoll as a kid and shooting those rifles. The ones in ocean city have zombies my brother told me . I can still taste Dollys popcorn and the candy kitchen taffy. I bought a Blade Runner book in 84 on the boardwalk and have never seen it anywhere. Ive looked online and never seen it. I miss those "junk" stores on the boardwalk. I found treasures there when I was kid that a sold for a hefty profit a couple years ago when I needed cash. I could go on all day. I miss those summers.

You and me both. Those were the golden years and the best memories of my childhood, BY FAR. My grandfather had a boat so we did a lot of deep sea fishing. Never could get into fresh water fishing after that. How many hermit crabs did you own from the junk stores? Some of those are still there and Dolly's is still there. I don't know if you ever got into Lewes, but Lloyd's IGA is still there across the street from the hospital. The Lewes/Rehoboth area might be my favorite place on earth because of those childhood memories. Here's a shot of where the canal empties out into the Lewes bay as well as a shot of the OC boardwalk. I'll have to get some shots of the Rehoboth boardwalk for you when we are down this summer.

Yeah, pretty much. It looks quite a bit like it did. Two things are jarringly different, though, at least for me. The boardwalk used to be elevated quite a bit above the sand so you could walk under it (one of the reasons I love the song "under the boardwalk"). Now they have the sand built up and sloped up to the boardwalk so you walk right onto the sand, rather than down steps. And you (obviously) can't walk under it anymore. My best memories were at the beaches in Mexico when I was a kid back in the 70s...when Mexico was a thousand times safer...no drug cartels...it was awesome...I miss those days hanging out with my dad and family...I'd trade my Mustang and my entire Superman collection to relieve at least one week of that...and not only beaches...but driving throughout Mexico, its mountains, valleys, deserts, forests, lakes, rivers, etc...I don't want to sound corny...but it was magical.

I remember a lot of camping trips to a campground up north (somewhere in Ontario north of me, I forget exactly where ) and in Maine (my parents loved that state). And one summer trip to Florida to visit relatives. Florida...in August....what the hell were my parents thinking!

My grandparents had a place in Lewes, Delaware. I spend many a weekend and many weeks there in the summertime. Riding my bike around the town, going to the beach, walking the Rehoboth boardwalk. I saw Jaws for the first time in the tiny theater in Lewes (didn't get in past my ankles for the rest of the summer). We rent a house on the beach in Lewes every year now and my kids are getting many of the same experiences.

We had our summer vacations in Ocean City and Rehoboth as well. We would spend a week with my grandparents in Rehoboth and a week with my parents in Ocean City. I have nothing but good memories of those summers.

In '76 or '77 my grandparents drove me, my aunt, and my uncle from Seattle to Disneyland via Las Vegas in their Maverick. Imagine no A/C driving through Nevada in the summer, a 6-year old, 11 year-old, and 15 year-old crammed in the back. Not sure what they were thinking but it was fun.
