My wife is going to Philadelphia for two months starting next week for job training. It goes without saying that I will pop in on her a time or two to make sure she is doing okay and to enjoy the local area, especially since I have never been to Philadelphia. So does anyone know any good sites we should take in or places we should go see?

Best cheesesteaks on earth!
Lots to see too. Franklin Institute, Museum Of Natural Science, Liberty Bell and lots of others stuff related to our history. I cant forget South Street. It is loaded on both sides with countless shops and stores. That is best made as a day trip, not at night.View My Customs

If you play poker, Harrah's is right down the street from the airport. Best poker room I have ever played in! I heard Parx, which is closer to downtown Philly has a nice one too.Comment

Thanks for all the suggestions. We both love history so I can see a few trips to historical sights in the works and we already joked about where she will park. lol. Not much on gambling after spending a few years in Vegas but we do enjoy the nightlife."Procrastination is the art of planning for tomorrow."Comment

but as far as things to do it depends on your interests
there are many scisnce and history museums in center city, the waterfront has the seaport museum, the battleip new jersey, camden aquarium, the USS olympia and a ww2 era sub. near the airport is the Simeon Car musuem, and in the burbs are the valley forge historical park, and several revolutionay battlefieds. There are wineries in delaware county (Chadds ford winery is very good)
there is the king of prussia Mall which is the largest mall for retail square footage (mall of america pads it's size with an internal theater and amusement park)
several Steven Starr restaurants are in center city including Morimoto (the iron chef's restaurant)
and since gabling is deregulated there are more casinos than you can shake a stick at now.Last edited by jds1911a1; Jan 27, '13, 7:16 PM.Comment

Suddenly I see any visits as a food fest! Not that I am against some good eating; in fact, I love good food. From the sounds of the input it looks like there is enough to do for my wife and I to fill multiple weekends. So now we are considering taking a weeks vacation there when she is done with class for the entire family."Procrastination is the art of planning for tomorrow."Comment
