I will be in Manahttan Next Saturday

    Hey, Megoheads:

I've got about 24 hours on the ground in Manhattan on Saturday the 16th.

Can anyone tell me where I can find some cool toy stuff in or around the area?

Haven't been to NYC in 20 years, so I have no ideas.

I'm not sure about toy related stuff, but we went 2 two years ago for the first time since I was a kid and totally impressed. We stayed and the Waldorf and went over to the empire state building, after that we walked the whole stretch down to battery park looed out at the Statue of Liberty. Little Italy had some pizza, Canal Street a lot of shopping there knock off heaven, Went to china Town which is right next to Little Italy.

The buildings around Battery park are amazing! For the first time I realized that "wow this is where it all started for us". I saw the building where John Lennon lived and was killed, Which is also the same building that Rosemarys Baby was filmed and it's right across the street from central park.

NYC is so clean and safe now, there's nowhere you shouldn't go. All the above was done in an afternoon.

    Have fun!

Thanks for the insight. I will definitely check out the environs. If nothing else, I will hit the FAO Schwartz!

You could check Forbidden Planet at 14th and B'Way.

Midtown Comics at 38th and B'way, a few blocks from Times Square.

There's Jim Hanley's Universe at 33rd st accross the street from the Empire State Building.

There used to be great stores in the Village but as the years have gone by many places closed; like Village Comics. Althought on the street where Viollage comics used to be there is a toy store with cars, planes and trains if you're into that. Do a search on Google and see what else comes up. There used to be a small but fanatstic toy store in the village near Bleeker Street but I don't see them listed in a search.

When I was there last April I hit 'Love Saves the Day' and 'Toy Tokyo', which is right next door, 2nd ave and 8th street I think. I picked up a boxed 12" STTMP Decker, Mint unopened to finish my set for 80 bucks, which I thought was fair. Lots of Mego and other older stuff at Love Saves the Day. Toy Tokyo has a lot of modern and Japanese import stuff but very cool and worth the trip.

Thanks guys... I googled and saw Forbidden Planet, but I was hoping for insider stuff like this... word of mouth is the only true way to know what kind of stuff a shop carries.

              Have a great day!
