"Honey...where did you hide the TVGuide?"

With all the digital programming these days, is the TVGuide still being published? I remember back when I was little, this was a very important book in my house. I used it to find which cartoons and prime time shows to watch, my dad loved to check which old movies were running on the CBS Late Movie. My sister used to love to check who was gonna be on Don Kirshner's Rock Concert, and my mom used to have to keep track of it. It was supposed to be left on the coffee table, but well, you know how that goes.

Do you miss the days of the TVGuide?
"Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."

TV Guide is still published. I subscribe to it. But now it is magazine size and not small like it use to be. They still do multiple covers. And they also do "double-size" issues, which is 2 weeks in a single guide. I have a friend who collectes TVGs and has all of them except 7 from the '50s.

Some time in the early 80s, my Dad lost the TV Guide. I remember the whole family panicked and turned the house upside down. After several days of no TV Guide (and a TV with no remote control), Dad finally found it...on top of the refrigerator!!! He was the only one tall enough to see it or really reach up there.

Why in the world didn't we just pluck down 75 cents for another one, I'll never know.

Oh, and the TV Guide was sacred. I got in trouble for vandalizing it on several occasions. The mad artist in my just had to draw mustaches and black out the teeth on every good photo I found in it. Eventually my mom started giving me the old copies so I could wreak my graffiti on them.

I haven't bought a TV Guide in years though. Not really needed with a Dish.

To this day, if I see any art by Al Hirschfeld I think of 70's TV Guides

"The Guide" was a very important part of my household growing up too.. I continued getting it via subscription for years after, finally cancelling right before they moved to the large magazine format.

I gave up on the magazine format a few years ago...It just wasn't the same anymore and it seemed to duplicate much of what Entertainment Weekly does during the course of the same week. Sometimes advances in technology just suck....

The TV Guide doesn't have local listings anymore. my mom still has to get the newspaper supplied TV listings, she just is not warm on the interactive guides.

I always wanted to get the TV Guide but never did. To this day I don't think I've ever had one in my house. Growing up we always used the TV Listing supplied by Newsday (L.I.).

I had one of my letters published to the TV Guide editor published once, it was on the X-Files, lol.

I used to religiously buy it, but sadly, it's no longer needed, TV Guide is a dinosaur in this age of DVR, On Demand, and the internet.

I used to really look forward to the fall preview issues so I could see what new shows were coming, that was a big event back then.

As a kid I'd look through TV Guide every week as soon as we got it, checking for cool stuff to watch.
                            Good memories.

I use to scope out the latest issue of TV Guide like it was a superhero comic. It always had good articles and interviews on popular shows and events. Everyone in the house use to fight over it when we got a new copy. I even did the puzzles.
