Anybody collect monster masks or props?

I'm thinking about leaving toys alone for a bit and collecting some monster masks and props and stuff. I'm a little hesitant as I bought a very large Rat Fink/Weirdo's mask a few years ago that was made in the 90's and it's already having issues with deterioration. I'm wondering if maybe it was just a lousy latex used, or maybe painted with wrong type of paint causing a reaction? I'm thinking of getting some higher end masks, guys like Jordu Schell and Casey Love. Anybody have experience with this type of stuff?
Also, when ordering off ebay etc, how close to the displayed picture do the masks look. Like would something like this look pretty close to the same in person?

I have thought about dabbling with some of the classic Don Post type masks, but have shyed away due to fears of deterioration. Definitely some cool stuff out there.

        That mask looks amazing.
Wish I knew the brand of it,it almost looks like a DeathStudios mask, but the eyes are different.
I have many masks, some still from the 80s.
Bag them and they stay nice for a long time.
You can also foam a mask to make a permanent display piece.
Excellent link here on a mask I also have, the Topstone Creepshow mask:

I don't know about newer ones, but vintage masks definitely suffer from deterioration issues, which has always scared me away from collecting them. Prop stuff too, I've seen pics of a head from an actual 60's Godzilla costume that one Japanese collector has, and you can see it sadly deteriorating.

Same issues with Harryhausens props. You almost want them sealed in acrylic just to preserve them forever.

Have you guys seen the actual Halloween 2 screen used mask?
              What a shame:

I have one mask which was used in a sci if flick from the 80s. One of my favorite pieces, and one of the saddest. The latex is extremely fragile. UV, heat, and cold are not kind to masks.

It looks awesome... But those studio shots like that tend to look way better than the actual mask you get.

Let us know how it turns out.

I chronicled my adventure in mask/prop buying when I was younger as I bought a Critter replica puppet. It was a disappointment, but I look at it more fondly these days: My Breakfast with the Critter Puppet

I've been into mask collecting for many years now, and I can safely say that anything that you purchase from Jordu Schell or Casey Love will absolutely blow you away. I have a few pieces from Casey which I've posted below. I haven't gotten anything from Jordu as of yet, but what I've seen is phenomenal. If you're looking for some more reasonably priced masks you should definitely check out http://www.trickortreatstudios.com/. I have four of their masks in my collection, and they look exactly like the pictures posted on their site. Most mass-produced masks don't live up to their website pictures, but these are in a totally different league. Let me know if you have any questions I may be able to help with.

Cool topic, and some great masks, they would make some very nice displays.

Does anyone know about vintage ones? I got this super ugly one at the auction. I have NO idea why I bid on it. But I did and got it for $5.00

I think I said I'd post a pic when I got it. Well here it is, I think it's pretty cool starter mask.

BTW Gummi, those masks are rad, thanks for sharing them.
