If you could go back in time to one year..

At a New years Party I was at someone asked the question "If you could go back in time to one year what year would it be?" Kind of a basic question but it got everyone thinking

My answer was 1982. I was 9 years old my Family was still intact. The movies, music, toys, T.v. etc. My family members were all still alive. That was my favorite year of my childhood and I liked everything about that year.

I don't know if I could go back unless I was given the hindsight (of the time) I have now.

I love 1978 but I think I only love the things I remember about it. There are more days forgotten than remembered. I'd hate to have to live through the mundane to bad to worse in order to have the few good days I do remember.
If I had only spent a tenth of the time studying Physics that I spent learning Star Wars and Baseball trivia, I would have won the Nobel Prize.

      I think 4th grade:

My family was still together for the most part. (except my brother Michael, who would return a year later). My older sister Drenette was still alive. She'd moved out, but I would have weekends w/ her. No class bully in my class, (teacher finally got wise and separated us), and of course all those rocking field trips! That was a pretty good year.

1983 is a year when a lot went right and a lot went wrong. I'd right the wrongs and make the rights even wronger. Muahaha.

If I had to pick a year during my lifetime, I would pick 1980. All my grandparents and great grandparents were still alive and of sound mind. I was too young back then to ask the kinds of questions that I would ask today, if I had the chance.

If I could pick any year in history, hmmm,...decisions, decisions. While I love the Tudor era, ultimately, I would like to experience the mid to late 19th century and life as my great great grandparents lived it: the contracts and similarities between us and them. I love the clothing styles of the 1870s and 1880s. I am also fascinated with the local architecture trends at that time in my area. Most of those buildings are gone now, and I would give my right arm to talk to the men who created those wonderful structures.

1987 seemed to be a good choice for me.....I was in the prime of my childhood and life was all about FUN.

Any "childhood" year would be nice. Family get togethers were actually FUN. It meant seeing my cousins, playing, and visiting my grandparents the store across the street.
It was really nothing more than an independent convenience store, but to us kids it was heaven. Our parents would let us go there and pick up a candy bar, magazines and/or comics.
They also had a back room with three or four arcade games. A far cry from the dull affair they morphed into as we all grew up.
There were the sleepovers. I'd get dropped at a friend's house for the weekend for basically a non-stop fun-fest, involving watching cartoons, playing with toys and sometimes video games depending on the friend. The closes thing I have to that today aside from mego Meet is when I take a weekend getaway. Of course in another sign of adulthood there is non being visited and I'm just going by myself.
Everybody was pretty much interested in the same stuff and there was shame in it. Come junior high that would all to start to change and not in a good way.

Any year in History, I'd visit my great-grandfather's family in 1899 in Kensington, London. It would be great to find out more about their family histories and to share the stories of their descendants with them. I could warn two of my GG's brothers that WWI would kill them.

                And I could party like it's 1899.

                  5th grade.

A girl I liked said she liked me and wanted to kiss me on the lips. I was so shocked I didn't say anything. Our frendship became kinda strained after that (She would avoid me). Then she moved a few weeks later. No phone number, new address, nothing. I was crushed.

interesting question if i had to go back to relive a year of my own life I would choose 1988. I hadn't hurt my back yet, I hadn't got fat yet, my life was full of possibilities and Mom and dad took care of the real heavy lifting for responsibilites - plus gas was 87 cents a gallon, and I could tell my younger self to slow the heck down before I wrecked my 79 catalina - I still miss that car

if I could choose any year and go there at my current age I'd choose 1975, if only to tell my Dad to save the mustang when the police recovered it after it was stolen rather than take the insurance and buy pinto's

Not a problem anymore. You can find her anytime now with the facebook, ha ha.

Anyway, I think I'd go back to 1978. Back then I still had a family, and a house, and everything seemed oh, so easy and simple. Or if I could go back and live it all again with what I now know then that would be... better than good! And if this was a question on some specific historic period, being a Historian myself I think I'd like to experience what it all was like back in Ancient Assyria.

1973 was an awesome year. Filled with friends, Megos, Big Jims, and GI Joes. Thanksgiving and Christmas were shared with all my favorite aunts and uncles. It was a magical time to be a kid. I would like to go back to that moment in time.

I'd go back to 1996, my wife and I were getting together and making a choice of which of us would finish college. I never had a chance to return I'd fix that and also avoid a little car issue we had lol.

I'd be tempted to go back and see the family I lost over the years (especially my mother), but then I'd lose the family I have NOW...my wife and kids. I couldn't it, if it meant leaving them behind.

If I could go back in time, I'd be waiting in the parking lot when that nut-bag showed up at that school in Connecticut and I'd beat him half to death with a baseball bat before he could go in and shoot up the teachers and kids. And Virginia Tech. And Columbine. etc.

....sorry......probably a bit too harsh for this thread.
