    My sugar anniversary

It's actually Jan 4, but I've got a lot of errands and stuff to do that day, so I'll just go ahead and do it tonight.

Here's the scoop, last Jan 4, I consciously and willingly gave up all sweets. I have not had a danish, donut, cookie, brownie, pastry, cake, pie, candy bar, milk shake, ice cream or even so much as a chocolate chip in 349 days. I simultaniously swithed all carbs over to whole wheat, foregoing white bread, rice, pasta and most potatoes. I ended up losing right around 85-90 pounds by doing this, and it wasn't a hard thing to do. I cured my diabetes, sleep apnea and high blood pressure in the process.

Today is the day I will eat a bunch of junk and sweets and see what happens. This is a complete experiment that might end up badly, I have no idea. Suddently introducing a bunch of sugar might make me ill or put me into a coma. Or, I might not have a taste for it anymore and never want to eat it again. All I know is there's an entire cheesecake on the counter thawing out for later. I've had a few mini Reese's cups that tasted okay to me, not overly thrilling. So, we'll see if I end up in the emergency room tonight. SHould be interesting...
I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.

I don't understand--you've done a spectacular job & I'm sure you feel great. Why binge "as an experiment"?

I just wanted to have one day to sort of see where I'm at. The most likely scenario is that everything tastes bad to me and I will have no interest anymore. I've not had any in a year, so let's have a day to indulge. I use the word experiment because I have no idea what to expect. I can tell you that I had a Little Debbie cake a little while ago that tasted terrible to me and these peanut butter cups are not doing it for me either. So this experiment might be over rather quickly. I think I'd rather have some beef jerkey covered in jalapeno cheese dip...

Well, that was a quick experiment. I couldn't even finish one slice of cheesecake, just didn't taste good at all. So I guess I'm back to sugar free once again...

Good for you. I wish I had the willpower to stay away from those things. I have been reducing my intake of soda pop and such, so I'll take small victories where I can. Congrats to you, Scott!
            It's all good!

Congrats Scott. That's a lot of weight. I've dropped 65 since August, doing pretty much the same thing. I took a week off around Christmas, but am back on the wagon.

Unfortunately for me, everything still tastes good to me, but I don't crave it and realize I feel better when I don't eat sugars and starches and drink a ton of water. I'm hoping to drop another 60 by mego meet and then another 40 by next Christmas. It'll be tough, but attainable. I started lifting weights last week after laying off for a decade and I've been walking.

So keep up the good work and I'll try to do the same.

Congrats Scott!,you have more will power than i do.I quit drinking pop about three months ago,but going cold turkey on all sugars,i have'nt been able to that.It seems like everything has sugar in it. I bought a milk out of the vending machine at work awhile back, instead of getting a Pepsi. The bottle of milk had sugar in it too!

Congrats, I'm stuck at the 40 lb loss mark because I just don't have that kind of will power.

Congrats on making it all year and doing so well.

I tried the same thing last year but only lasted until about April. Be careful with your experiment though. The moment I started eating sweets again the cravings came back and the weight followed.

Congrats Scott!!! I'm glad you found that you really don't want or need that stuff. I haven't taken the drastic measures you have, but I did cut WAY back on my soda intake last year, and I feel and look better for it.

It's nice to know that I've completely broken myself of that stuff. Some old personal favorites are just not the same, and I'm cool with that. I have a new life to lead and I'll move forward without sugar. Of course ther's sugar in a lot of foods, but I just don't add to it in any way. I know a lot of people have the mentality of cheat days, but I do not afford myself that luxury. My attempts yesterday are proof that I do not need or want them. Thanks for the support and encouragement.

Congratulations Scott. My wife did the same thing last year after her hospital trips and health scares. She is now 65lbs lighter and much healthier for it. I started following her trend in late November and am down 17lbs so far. It was really hard at first but you are right, it gets much easier as time passes.
