Alot of people are saying they had one in the other thread, never new they were that big of a chain. Who had one when they were a little mego collector.
We had one here in Ashtabula...the empty lot is still there to this day. We had something else even cooler though...a lifesize FLYING SAUCER gas station with an alien inside it! They used to swap out the alien for Santa every Christmas.
Here's a picture of it from 1976...boy do I miss it.
We had a Red Barn in Altoona Pa. when I was a kid. the building is still there, I think it's a dry cleaner now. Occasionally I pass a couple others in Central Pa. while traveling, one in Lewistown that's a Chinese buffet now and one in Mechanicsburg that I think is a pizza shop.
I saw a picture of that in the book Weird Ohio, really cool!
Yeah, it was so awesome...can you believe they tore it down to build a stupid Walgreens? Just what we needed. Within a quarter mile in three directions there's a CVS, a Drug Mart, and a Rite Aid.
Had one put it closed in West Memphis in 1973 or 74 after McDonald's opened. A large bait and hardware and pawn shop occupied the building for a long time.
We had several in Cuyahoga Falls, OH when I was growing up there (I live in Dallas now). We had one on State Road and another one on Cuyahoga Falls Avenue - right across the street from a local hamburger place called Swenson's - which is still there today. If anyone out there has actually been to/remembers Swenson's, drop me a line and I'll send the true believer some Mego Museum cards!
Brue, I had a friend that used to work at the one in Hubbard... one night he snuck up in the attic storage and put on the Hamburger Hungry mascot costume and ran around the town for an hour. Hilarious! :P
Wasn't there one in Austintown out on Mahoning Ave. too?
BTW, Enyawd, how's Geneva on the Lake doin' these days?... spent lots of weekends up there playing pinball, vids and eating wings from the High Tide while dodging threatening looks from drunk Hell's Angels.
… you guys are freakin' killing me with the Ohio memories today!

Reason: Once, the river burned. Now it's much cleaner.
I basically live down the street from Swenson's. Love that place! The old Red Barn building across the street is still there, but it's empty now.

As a family, that was our favorite fried chicken destination way back in the day as a kid, oh man, the memories, thanks for posting this time machine trip.

The one on Mahoning Ave. was a Jays Hot Dog years, now its just a no name plain jane hot dog shop.
We had one in the town I grew up in. It was right next door to the McDonald's. I always preferred Red Barn chicken over anything on the McDonald's menu.
