I stood at the oven for an hour last night. The kids ate 15 between them and i didn't get one of them.

No lemon and sugar in our house last night. Syrup, jam and Nuttella were the favourites this year.

Are USA pancakes the same as UK ones ?

I think a US pancake is probably smaller and thicker. We tend to do them large and thin (a bit like a tortilla wrap).

Flour, egg, milk and a pinch of salt - a basic batter mix, poured into a large flat frying pan with a little very hot oil and `tossed` halfway through.

Pancake day is a bit of a missrepresentation - It's actually `Shrove Tuesday` which has some kind of religious significance I think but forgive me as my bible seems to have gone missing.

Shrove Tuesday is the day before Lent starts: the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday. It's a day of penitence, to clean the soul, and a day of celebration as the last chance to feast before Lent begins.

Shrove Tuesday is sometimes called Pancake Day after the fried batter recipe traditionally eaten on this day.

But there's more to Shrove Tuesday than pigging out on pancakes or taking part in a public pancake race. The pancakes themselves are part of an ancient custom with deeply religious roots.

Shrove Tuesday gets its name from the ritual of shriving that Christians used to undergo in the past. In shriving, a person confesses their sins and receives absolution for them.

Shrove tuesday "pancake day" is traditionally 47 days before easter and is the last day to eat fat, cream and good things before lent..hence chucking it all in pancakes and the like....
I just love em.....the use of lemon on them is so great over here they used to advertise jiff lemon by saying don't forget jiff lemon day......I love just squirting that fresh lemon juice straight down me throat....mmmmmmmm...except when i've got an ulcer...ouch.
