Do you buy bottled water ? --- question if you do

    I never buy bottled water.

Because of hurricane Sandy our town's water tower pump stopped (because the electric went out)

During the outage the town gave us all bottled water to get us by.

The electric returned a few days ago and so did the water but we still have a boil water advisory.

Since then i've been using the Great Value and Smart Sense bottled water the town gave me.

    My question is ......

I noticed when I make coffee with bottled water it comes out super weak (both instant and coffee maker coffee) ... like twice as weak as normal.

    Is this normal ?

I've had to use bottled for coffee before and never noticed a difference.

Weaker? That's interesting. If it was just a different flavor that would make more sense to me - since coffee is mostly water - so I can easily see how using a different kind of water would change the taste.

Maybe if the water is filtered more there's less minerals in it - and the coffee is clinging to the water less as it gets perked - so less coffee is winding up in the pot? That might not make sense anyway - but I really can't see how that would make sense for instant coffee - since no matter what the same amount of coffee is going into the cup.

I guess the most probable answer is that there's a big government conspiracy to make your town's coffee weaker so you're more sleepy and have less energy to get worked up about the storm damage.

                  Hmmmm....

That's.... really weird. Maybe your water BEFORE had all sorts of impurities which added to the taste?

                    It's very possible

Just made some more this morning and I swear it's way more weaker than it was with my old water.

We buy distilled galloned water and use it. Our tap water is dubious at best. Not even sure we should bathe or brush our teeth with it, let alone ingest it.

BAH! Back in MY day water was more waterier! These kids with their MODERN water don't know what water is!

But seriously; there shouldn't be a dif. Are you using different coffee, filters, milk, whatever?

When i first read this thread i thought, bah, there should be no difference. But after checking out what some coffee geeks at coffeegeeks.com had said,i'm thinking differently.Several things can effect the taste and even the water flow through the coffee. The way it is treated /purified,amount of ions, amount of minerals,distilled/nondistilled,hard or soft water all effect the taste and one or more of these things is whats making Mikey's coffee taste weaker.
