    Good question.

What do our Canadian friends call Canadian Bacon? We call it "Ham".

Interesting. Oddly enough we call American Cheese...American Cheese. And I call Kentucky Fried Chicken...Kentucky Fried Chicken (or KFC).

Yes, and while Brit David Bowie, in "Ashes to Ashes," sang "I got a message from the Action Man..." I can confirm my Shazam figure speaking to me from the shelf.

I've never understood why you'd put your country name on the blandest cheese known to man. My family calls it processed cheese.

                ^I blame Kraft.

As for the Amish, we call our Amish...Amish. Your Amish is Pennsylvania Dutch.

I call Canadian Bacon "Canadian Bacon". Ham is something completly different. You can get either or both on pizza here.

As for American Cheese, I think I remember reading processed cheese was actually invented in America so that how we got the name.

It's really not a bad cheese, just a mixture of already established cheeses in one lump

The only Canadian Bacon I ever had is on an egg McMuffin.

To me it's just overly grizzled ham

Yeah, me too. I was just being a smarty-pants. But Canadian Bacon is closer to ham than bacon, IMHO.

You're talking about real American cheese, which is a blend of cheddar and colby. I think they're talking about processed cheese food, which is very different...it only has to be 51% actual cheese, IIRC You can still get the real stuff and it tastes good--not necessarily better, just different--from the more popular type. For making a cheeseburger, you'll want to go with the fake stuff.

                            Basically, yes.

And although English Muffins and crumpets are similar, they're still sufficiently different to warrant the different names.
And just to confuse matters, the other kinds of muffins (such as blueberry muffins or chocolate muffins) are also called muffins.

And on a similar topic... what do the French call French Toast?

(From living in Quebec I know that the French call French Fries "frites"... but not sure about French Toast.)

Edit: Apparently the French call French Toast "pain perdu" which means "lost bread".
