Ok if you haven't already heard about this, it's pretty clear what he says. I watched the video and my wife who was half asleep looked up and asked me if she heard him correctly. I hate the fact that this will turn into a giant racial issue. I could care less about anyone saying, " if a white guy said it, they would be fired" This is about someone saying it period. Smith has always portrayed himself as a thug punk and i have never liked him. I thought he always played a character on tv and never believed he actually talks the way he does. It is clear to me what he says and the fact that he says otherwise is a joke. Again, this is not a race thing, it's wrong no matter who says it. But seriously Steven, Own up to it already.

I can't stand that little "never played a sport in his entire life" runt...yet he thinks his the foremost authority on anything about sports.
He's such an annoying and obnoxious loudmouth, a know-it-all, plays the angry card all the time...and sucks up more to NBA players than Madonna ever did.
I'll be glad if he were to get canned.sigpic -
Of course he said it. No doubt. And he should be fired. Period. No excuses made.
Others have been fired (and rightly so) for things like this. He shoudl be too.
If he gets away with it now, he will do it again later. Then what will they do?Comment

I am enjoying the fact that he is the first one to get on sports players, coaches, and owners for not telling the truth, but
when the tables turned on him he is buckling under and lying.
He obviously said it and his loud mouth finally caught up with him.Comment

I normally would have been fine with it if he had confessed to the error. Suspend him as a punishment for whatever time span, apologize and move on. I also hear the "word" used multiple times a day. I have tons of people I associate with that use it regularly. Not even just from black people. I've seen Hispanics and Portuguese people use it in reference to themselves. Is it wrong for a person that isn't black to use it against themselves? I don't usually follow the whole Politically Correct thing anyway. He definitely didn't use it in a derogatory manner. He could have easily subbed in "are you kidding me?" But since he lied about it he has to be fired. They fired a headline writer last year for using the statement "a chink in the armor" in a sentence about Jeremy Lin. He made absolutely no reference to anything about Lin's ethnicity, it was a simple statement about his dropping numbers after having a phenomenal run for a few weeks. If that justifies being fired then this sure as hell does. I haven't seen any report directly from ESPN, if they let this go, and he keeps denying he said it, I have only 1 thing to say Steven A. please.Last edited by megocrazy; Oct 27, '12, 2:51 PM.It's not a doll it's an action figure.Comment

The only problem with suspending him rather than firing him is this...Don Imus was fired for saying "nappy headed ho's" on his talk show. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson were OUTRAGED and called for his head on a platter.
If Steven A is not fired, that is pure hypocrisy. No other way around it. You cannot fire one man over a racial slur (rightly so) and suspend another man for it. And I don't care what color the skin is that says it, a racial slur is a racial slur is a racial slur. It either stops all across the board or everyone should be allowed to say it. NO middle ground here.Comment

^^ You are right, he won't. And I don't think he should be either. But it's still hypocrisy for Imus and the other guy who made the Jeremy Lin remark to get fired and Steven A not to.
My point: The firings and over-reaction to all this needs to stop.Comment
