    Halloween School Memories..

What traditions did you have in school back around halloween time?

For me back in the late 70's early 80's
every year we would sing this..

We would also watch this. This had a huge influence on who I am today. Im sure some other people out there remember seeing this as well.

Hmmm...well, I used to like coming to class and seeing the room all deocrated for the firsrt time. In 6th grade, we got to help decorate. There were always great art projects to do. My fave has always been the jumping jack-o-lantern. Sometimes we got to write cool compositions about Haunted Houses and stuff. On Halloween, we went to school all dressed up. Our school never did parades or anything, but everyone had parties in their classroom and we'd all bring something. I usually brought candy. It was fun before school and at lunchtime, b/c you'd see what everyone else was wearing. None of the teachers were gonna plan any "real" work that day, since we were all so keyed up. We did some reading, maybe some art, and a little free tiime, then after lunch, the party! Sometimes we'd have to get up one at a time, in front of the class and tell about our costumes.

Celebrating at school and church was the most Halloween I ever got. I could only T or T in my building, to the families I knew, (which took all of 10 mins). I guess that's why I make such a big deal of it now.

Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic

I have nothing but great memories of Halloween parties, scary stores on records (like Alfred Hitchcock) and loads of candy. It's a fantastic time of year.

I always loved the Halloween parade in grade school. After lunch everyone would dress up and the teachers would parade the us around the block then back to the class for the party.

I don't recall the film strip or that witch song, but they are neat. Our music teacher, whom we had all through elementary school, dressed up as her twin sister the witch every Halloween. She'd tell us she locked our teacher in the closet, and she was taking over. Fun in the first few grades, but it began to get a little weird by 6th grade!

One song we always sang was "There was an old woman all skin and bones"

We always had parties, and my mom was usually one of the main room mothers. One year my Mom said she was coming and bringing cupcakes. I think it was 4th or 5th grade. I was He-Man that year. The party started and my mom was nowhere to be seen. I was getting antsy, thinking she wasn't going to show. This adult in a clown costume asked me what was wrong, and I told him/her what was going on. The clown was my mom! She pulled a good one on me that year.
