My comment of "upperclass" chain was just to distinguish them from McDonald's, Burger King etc.

"Chain sit-down" was a better word for what I ment

By that criteria I would say Fuddruckers. I go at least once a month, sometimes twice.

Red Lobster is "special occasion" type thing I hit with my best friend a few times a year.

If I'm going to a chain it's got to be Buffalo Wild Wings. We have local wings that are better but when I travel to anchorage for work - which is chain restaurant heaven if you're into that - the only place I go is BWW. Oh and when I'm in Mexico I only go to Monster Cafe.....

I'll go to Bob Evans or Sonny's if my Dad wants to go there. That's about it. Otherwise for us its usally one of several local Chinese buffets. Five Guys is about as "upper class" as I get for chains.

I forgot to mention Smash Burger. It's kind of inbetween fast-food and sit-down, since you order at the counter and get your own refills, etc. I prefer their burgers and prices to Red Robin, although I like Red Robin too. 5 Guys is good also.

Unfortunately, not a lot of good non-chain places around here.

With 3 boys who love to eat out, we hit the "chain sit-down" restaraunts quite often. In order, their favorites are:

                    1. Outback
                    2. Red Lobster
                    3. Pei Wei or PF Chang's
                    4. On the Border
                    5. Applebees or Chilis

MY favorite sit-down chain is Ruth's Chris Steak House

Upperclass? Some of these answers are ignoring that word. As far as chains go....Applebee's after ten for appetizers, buffalo wild wings for fun and salt and vinegar wings, and olive garden because the wife loves it. Living on long island, I frequent the great local pubs/burger places the most and red lobster is the last place I go for fish.

                          I can't do Olive Garden

They have lousy choices, small portions and they're over priced,

No real Italians would eat there

Like I said in a previous post, last time I went to a restaurant chain was a few months ago...I took my mother to lunch.

I ordered a sirloin steak...and it was awful...I had ordered it medium rare...and they brought it well done and juiceless...I took it back...and to make sure I got what I wanted, I told the waiter I wanted it bloodied...well...another steak came back...and it was still well done...bloody hell. Who do they have cooking back there...Stevie Wonder?

Needless to say...that was the last time I've gone to Applebee's.

Oakland is not known for great steakhouses (San Francisco owns that category by a mile)...but there are a few good independent ones here and there...Kincaid's (which is indeed a small chain, but had no idea until this thread, lol), Grand Oaks Restaurant & Sports Lounge, and Prime Spot Bar & Grill...

Kincaid's Fish, Chop and Steak House has been serving the best steaks and fresh seafood since 1986! Locations in California and Minnesota.

Enjoy traditional american food and watch games on our Big Screen tv's at Grand Oaks Restaurant & Sports Lounge in Oakland.

Anybody else here has a Kincaid's nearby?

It's a small restaurant chain, but there are four locations in the East Coast, and five in the West Coast...

I've heard great things about Ruth's Chris Steak House, but there're none nearby.

For those of you who only know BD Texas Roadhouse, Girve's Brown Derby is awfully good.
