The Scariest Movies You Haven't Seen (Yet)

    According to this yahoo article....http://movies.yahoo.com/blogs/movie-...15.html?page=1

Aside from the Asian films (which do absolutely nothing for me) I've seen all but Possession which is to say I've seen half. Like most things, I think horror films are subject to taste. What one person finds scary another may find silly (or gross) For me Let the Right One In was weird, Something Wicked is very obscure these days but frightening for children and classic Bradbury, The Decent was godawful, and Pan's Labyrinth was a flat out masterpiece and by far the best of the films on the list that I've seen. The few movies I would have put on here would have been a couple of obscure remakes, The Blob from 1988 and Invasion of the Body Snatchers from the 70's always creeped me out and for the "what the hell did I just watch" movie that stayed with me for ever...The Company of Wolves.

    >I think horror films are subject to taste.

Very true, as I'll demonstrate in a sec.

    >What one person finds scary another may find silly

Yup. I knew a lot of folks freaked out by "The Blair Witch." I was more cheesed off at the dumbass kids who got lost WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE OF A ROAD! It's not a horror movie, it's a testament for natural selection....

    >The Decent was godawful,

Well.... I didn't HATE it, but it was pretty blah. Having lived through the 80's I"ve seen this one before.... many, many times. That's been a thing for me the last decade or so; most movies don't seem particularly good or bad to me, they're just sort of there. Which makes it hard to empathize with people who love or hate them.

    >Aside from the Asian films (which do absolutely nothing for me)

My problem with these is that I've seen a LOT of them over the years, so the newer ones that get press over here feel played out to me.

    >Pan's Labyrinth was a flat out masterpiece

This was one I thouhgt was okay, but not great. The monsters were neat, but there was something missing for me. I never quite CARED about anyone in the film, which made it an exercise in spectacle.... which I'm okay with, but can't get excited about.

    >Something Wicked is very obscure these days but frightening for children

I really like this one. It's neat, weird, and kind of understated.... which I'm fine with. Not everything needs to be a big budget, in your face sort of thing. This film made me think of the evil version of Dr Lao.

    >For me Let the Right One In was weird

It wasn't bad, and it presented a welcome take on vampires.... that being they're MONSTERS who use and EAT people, rather than moon over them. I'd been told about the book, and some of the stuff that got edited or downplayed for the film and yeah; it's still there if you know where to look, and it's pretty creepy.

I don't know if I've seen "Posession" or not. If I did, it didn't make an impact.

There's a ton that could be added. For recent films, I'd add "The Trollhunter." Another interesting "what did I just see?!?!?" film would be "Cemetary Man." For old school films that creeped me out I'd add "Curse of the Cat People" and "Spider Baby."

I was literally telling my 13 year old daughter yesterday about the movie Something Wicked This Way Comes. I always liked it, and thought there were some creepy parts in it.

Shouldn't this be in the Horror section?

I dig Mexican and Spanish horror flicks...and better when they combine both crews (it's the norm now).

Have you also seen The Devil's Backbone (El Espinazo del Diablo)?

        REC...

        The Orphanage (el Orfanato)...

        Cronos...

I loved Pan's Labyrinth as well (although I consider this more of a dark fantasy film than horror)...

These are all great horror films...and should not be missed.
