    Certain Smells

Do certain smells take you back in time, to a certain place in your life that you remember at an instant when you smell whatever it is you are smelling, Ha

The smell of new carpets always seems quite comforting, my Dad used to work in a carpet store and used to take me to work with him when I was about 3 years old, and I would fall asleep on top of a mountain of carpets. Also the smell of that plastic type chewing gum that used to shatter and splinter that came with old trading cards, that always takes me back on a nostalgia trip.

I have been buying the reissued Marx Johnny West gear sets from the "Friends of Johnny" group. Unlike the Marx re-issues of a few years ago, or the stuff put out by Toy Trackerz, these kits have that incredible plastic smell unique to the original old Johnny West vinyl accessories. Every time I get a whiff of that heavenly scent it takes me back to Christmas ' long ago, when a Johnny West toy under the tree was an absolute certainty.

A couple of years ago I was visiting Woods Hole up in Cape Cod.
The tour bus was clearly an old converted school bus.
When I got on and the driver pulled out......
The smell of that diesel bus engine really took me back.
Aint no smell like a school bus engine

Do you mean the ones with the purple ink? Ditto masters! I liked that smell too. There was a movie, I don't remember the title, but there were a bunch of schoolchildren, and the teacher passed out those sheets for a test. All the kids bent down at the same time, took a whif, and smiled when they sat up.

Sometimes, there's a certain smell in a store that reminds me of Children's Palace, my childhood toy store. I smelled the smell when I was with my brother once and before I could ask him what that smelled like he turned and said "This smells like Children's Palace".

the shoe smell from the payless stores always takes me back to the 80's when my mom would spend hours at shoe stores in the mall and we would be buying toys at the KB next door

The smell of Bazzooka Joe bubble gum!!!It was just the best as a kid, that little bit of sugar you could see on the outside.3 or 4 pcs and you would get an awesome bubble.Sweet smelling tasted great and you got a cartoon to read too. That what being a kid was about, fun for only 1 cent.

Ditto machines, its it. The smell of the ink.

Crayons also trigger a certain memory.

                              amonia
