The last movie I saw was True Grit in 2010 before that it was the first Iron Man. With all the in home tech now, why go? I even waited for the Avengers on Blu-ray. I don't follow this stuff, but box office sales must be down, compared to years ago, right? I know the big movies still do good, but what about the average flick? Just wondering. I could see if they had more Imax theaters.

I'm very selective when I go to the movies.
I only go there to watch the must sees for me...movies like Prometheus, The Avengers, The Amazing Spider-Man, Dark Knight Rises...and the last movie I saw at the theater was sort of recent, I saw End of Watch recently, which turned out to be an awesome movie.
I go early...where there's minimum people...I just like the darkness, the stale popcorn, the watered down soda...yeah...once in a while I like to throw away money on overpriced junk, lol.
But I know what you are saying...watching at home a giant flatscreen with Blue-ray (surround sound too)...it's awesome....no need to go to the movies...but I go sometimes...just because I can't wait to see that movie...but it's not often, as I said, only selective movies, lol.sigpicComment

Still like the early shows. Just have to sneak in drinks and candy.
They shouldnt even sell candy/drinks at those prices.
I havent got a awesome home movie setup so It still seems like a good show to me. Honestly i think alot has been lost since films come to a home format so quick now. Films in the theater use to be an event that I guess will never be recaptured unless its a big one the way SW:Ep1 was or a group event like The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Films use to stay in theaters much longer. Now hits are released much quicker to own.Last edited by Figuremod73; Oct 16, '12, 7:39 PM.Comment

With today's huge HD tvs and surround sound home systems, the cinema has little to offer a selective customer as me. 'True Grit' was the last movie I had to see right away. I don't like watching movies so much at a showing, unless I want to see the audience's reactions. Being in the 1/3rd of the audience laughing at 'Men Who Stare At Goats' was priceless.
The 'Drive-In' is my love. I saw the last Star Trek and latest Terminator, for $5 a head with my wife as a double bill. We smuggle a pint of wiskey and I got to drink and smoke through out the movies. Found out, I have surround sound in my van. SWEET!Comment

Yep, just something about it. It makes for a cheap date and a great way to kill a Sunday afternoon. I went to see Lawless last month, maybe I'll check something out this weekend.Comment

I hit the theatre when I travel for work...it's a good way to kill time and do something I enjoyed doing before the kid. I like to grab some popcorn and a soda and just relax. Saw Avengers on one trip and The Expendables on another.

The only reason I go back to the movies is because of the broad I'm eventually dating. If not for that, I doubt I'd spent a dime on these stupid movies from nowadays.
Back in the good old days I remember going to the Cinerama. Not only was HUGE (would dwarf most if not all of your local movie theaters), but it also had those breathtakin' Dolby Sensurround effects. It really makes me feel sorry for kids nowadays. You think they have all the good tech stuff? There will never be another Cinerama! I can still remember after three decades going to see Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, E.T., Cannonball II, Rocky III... if there are any movies to challenge those nowadays, you guys PLEASE let me know!Comment

I went to see Brave on my birthday this year. I don't have all this big screen, surround sound stuff at my house, so I like going to the movies. I don't get to go as much as I'd like for 2 reasons. 1) the prices, ridiculous! 2) I really like going w/ people, but I don't really get to. And even though matinees are cheaper, there's something magical about the movies at night. The lights, the lines of people anticipating the film. And if it's a big event film like Star Trek, it's cool to see if people show up in costume, or at least T-shirts. But I do miss drive-ins. Pile the whole family in the car, pillows, blankets, snacks, and a cool movie. Oh, and don't forget hiding the kids in the trunk, or under the plank bed in the van."Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."Comment
