Wow. Apparently Steven Tyler doesn't think dressing up on stage and playing "judge" on American Idol is 'theater'. If that isn't the pot calling the kettle black.
Listening to Rockline live tonight with Paul Stanley and Tommy Thayer and Paul was asked about Tyler's comment. Oh man!!! Paul Stanley ever the diplomat decided it was time to shoot one back across the bow. He said, "I know when Aerosmith co-headlined with us years ago, Steven insisted on being the closing act of the final show. To me it made no difference because either way you have to get up there and perform. So Steven had to be disheartened by the lackluster response the crowd gave them as they were walking out. I always say be careful what you ask for."
He wasn't done there either.
"You know I have been performing as long as Steven has in this business and I take what I do every bit as serious as what he claims. I love all the guys in Aerosmith and have so much respect for them. But I think Steven may have been feeling a bit too full of himself when he said that. And I would just say to him, we have just put out our album and it's doing quite well. Let the music do the talking."
Comic Book Rock Band? Aerosmith is a corporate rock band of the worst kind. Yes, Burger King Commercials? Sorry, but there is nothing Rock N' Roll about that. My mother loves them and I remember laughing when I was younger to read they had "wardrobe assistants". I thought, what kind of rebellious rock band has people deciding what they wear?
Truth be told, I kinda hate both of them. But there are some Kiss songs I do like and some elements of their early days I appreciate.
Sorry, but when I think of real Rock bands I think of stuff like the Runaways, Ramones, Johnny Thunders and New York Dolls (who Kiss ripped-off) and all those early punk bands.
meh, Gene probably put him up to saying something nasty just so some controversy gets generated - they did just release a new LP and there aren't too many from the Bible belt states burning their records anymore lol
I love both bands, but they are absolutely two different animals. In a way, Steven is right in saying that KISS is theatre. Even KISS admitted they were more entertainers than musicians. To me, that's pretty much what Steven is saying. "We're better musicians." He's right, they are.
But being a virtuoso isn't necessary. You don't even have to be a good musician to make kick-azz music. The Ramones flat out suck as musicians and Joey is a terrible vocalist. There is absolutely no technical proficiency, aside from endurance maybe. However, Joey's voice is unique and cool, and the music rocks and they are another favorite band of mine.
