Anyone here still rock an 8-Track?

I haven't listened to one since my friend's dad used to drive us to high school in his Firebird Trans Am during the early 80's. I heard my share of Tom Jones, Elvis and The Commodores those early mornings. Love to see some pics of your car or home 8-Track player.

My parents finally got rid of theirs in 1997. Good times.

We haven't had one since ours died back in 1975. After that, it was mostly LP's, and when cassettes came along, I collected those. Then I moved onto CD's, then to an Ipod and downloading music.

Thomas Edison would be amazed at what his little invention has turned into.

I'm kinda suprised that some of them still work. I figure the player would be a tape eater by now OR the tape inside would start to turn to dust.

Yeah, that's the only one I have now. But he doesn't work so well anymore; he plays multiple tracks at the same time and the answer is never correct.

I loved the 8-track back in the day...good memories.

But it's a technology that's way past its prime...I prefer to fondly remember the 8-track...not use it, lol.

My man, I need to get a stereo for my Mustang.

Which you recommend that fits into the radio area?

I don't want to place a modern stereo that does not fit in the dash area and place it inside the glove compartment...and use my old non-working original radio as decoy on the dash...I want one of those modern ones that custom fit that dash area.

What do you think of something like this?

I always thought 8-tracks produced better sound (less hiss) than cassettes

I have this model. I unfortunately had to sell the separate Dolby device which was an Advent model 100 (if my memory doesn't fail) that I remember using with this one and a Bang & Olufsen reel-to-reel recorder that I also sold years ago.

As it happens with most everything that is recorded magnetically, I happen to hate the way these things sound. I just kept the deck just in case someday I felt like playing another Bee Gees' or Bachman-Turner Overdrive 8T tape

Yea, that pretty much the way you need to go, unless you wanna start hacking up your dash. On the 69-70 they just make a reproduction bezel that has a wider narrower slot. But for yours, you would have to modify it yourself.

Back in the corner of the basement, I still keep an old stereo system complete with cassette, turntable, and an 8 track player. You just never know what fabulous, odd music you might find out there on outdated media.
