Supreme Court reviewing your right to resell your own goods

Wouldn't it be scary to think you could no longer sell anything made overseas without permission? Well that is exactly what is being looked at by the Supreme Court. And when you consider everything we collect is made overseas, what impact would that place on the secondary market? Think of the hit online auction houses like Ebay would take if no one were allowed to sell action figures? Think of what it would do to the economy if free commerce were suddenly upended like this? Scary this is even being looked at.

This is also being commented on in the Wallstreet Journal, but it won't let you copy links to their stories. Here's the article showing Ebay fighting the case as well.

Bro, I was cutting a 3/4" sheet of oak plywood to make a cabinet, and as I raise it to the table saw, I catch the the tag out of the corner of my eye, It says made in China and I was like what the! We can't make wood anymore.

Sounds like somewhat repeat of what happened with PIPA and SOPA. Companies went too far trying to get more and it died. I'm betting the same thing will happen here, particularly because there are cases where the original rights holder no longer exists.

                    That is absolutely terrifying.
I mean, I'm sure it won't go through, but can you imagine if it did? Collecting armageddon.

All of this because some college student from Tailand had his family buy his books overseas and had them shipped here.

I think that's ridiculous! How in the world can someone tell you that you can't sell something that's YOURS regardless of where you bought it or where it came from?
"Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."

Same thing they're trying to do with all your iTunes downloads -- claim you don't *own* it, but that you're *licensing* it from them, and that the license isn't transferable. I actually read an entire article about how lawyers are helping some people set up family trusts so rights to downloaded music and movies don't revert back to Apple when the person whose account paid for the download dies!

First they came for my music downloads, then they came for my vintage, overseas-produced action figures . . .

This will never happen...it would shut Ebay down overnight, not to mention every flea market, collectibles show, antique store, garage sale, pawn shop...it would cripple the economy.
